Monday, the system announced that 17 of its schools were recognized by the Environmental Protection Agency as Stars leaders say some of the energy savings came from the installation of new equipment, but more often than not, all it took was turning off unused energy hogs."Wonderful," exclaimed MPS Superintendent Barbara W. Thompson. "This is definitely a team effort with staff and students working to turn off lights and equipment not in use," she added.Thompson says the efforts have positively impacted the bottom line.The school system was expecting energy costs to top $9.1 million for the time frame between November [عزيزي الزائر يتوجب عليك التسجيل لمشاهدة الرابط للتسجيل اضغط هنا] 2024 and December 2024. When the final total was calculated, MPS leaders said they only had to pay $7.1 [عزيزي الزائر يتوجب عليك التسجيل لمشاهدة الرابط للتسجيل اضغط هنا] million, a reduction [عزيزي الزائر يتوجب عليك التسجيل لمشاهدة الرابط للتسجيل اضغط هنا] of from six to 38 percent among the schools.The expected energy cost for MPS from November 2024 to December 2024 was $9.1 million dollars. The actual cost was $7.1 million.The savings are the *****alent of a reduction of 10,497 metric tons of CO2."Our principals and our operations department worked together to help educate students and staff," Superintendent Thompson said. "We are especially proud of the work of our own energy czars Kenneth Wright and Jason Bigham who monitored and educated our employees and worked with our partners like Energy Education to reap these impressive savings."
