Photos Of Rescued Dogs And Their Tattooed Humans

A photographer is hoping to tackle two separate but similar prejudices, concerning ****ter animals and Tattooed people, in one fell swoop by photographing them together to produce powerful portraits.
Brian Batista‘s moving Photos spotlight Dogs – particularly Pit Bulls and other breeds which suffer some of the worst unfounded reputations – with the inked owners who saved them from abuse and abandonment.
The Nashville, Tennessee-based photographer tells Little Things that he started his project in 2024 to challenge the notion that all rescue pets are ‘damaged’ and that all Tattooed people are ‘degenerates’.

Dogs are man’s best friends in any galaxy.NASAWhen Astronaut Leland Melvin sat for his official NASA photo, he decided to let his dogs Jake and Scout in on the action. Considering Melvin’s extraordinary life story full of career obstacles, such an endearing staff photo just seems to make sense.
In fact, when Melvin tweeted photos of his dogs sitting patiently beside him and then jumping upto give him some affection, the images were tweeted and retweeted thousands of times.

Long before he was wearing the signature orange spacesuit, Melvin was a pro football player for the Detroit Lions in the late ’80s, and then with the Dallas Cowboys. Melvin left his career in sports after an injury and did the next best thing — he went to space.

With a background in engineering, Melvin worked for NASA starting in 1989 and became an Astronaut in 1998, flying missions on the Space Shuttle Atlantis in 2024 and 2024.

Melvin suffered another injury, this time going deaf during an underwater training exercise. Surgery recovered some of his hearing, but he was medically disqualified from participating in any additional space missions. That didn’t stop Melvin from continuing his career with NASA, however.

Melvin went on to work as the head of NASA education and sat as the co-chair of the White House Education Task Force to encourage students to get excited about STEM subjects. He has toured schools promoting STEM and space education as the co-manager of NASA’s Educator Astronaut Program.

He also served in the Robotics Branch of the Astronaut Office. When he’s not in the classroom or at speaking engagements, he’s hosting the reality TV show "Child Genius" for the Lifetime Network.

But he’s not the only star in the family. Melvin’s dogs Jake and Scout were featured in a 2024 episode of "The Dog Whisperer." And while the pups won’t be making any voyages to distant planets, they’ve already gained quite a fan base here on Earth.

Manchester dogs Home is on fire with all the dogs yelping 🙁
7:46 PM – 11 Sep 2024 Manchester, United Kingdom

More than 40 dogs have been killed in a huge blaze at a Manchester dogs’ home. A 14-year-old male has been arrested on suspicion of arson, according to Great Manchester Police. Firefighters were called to the scene around 7pm after a fire was spotted in the kennel section. Around 150 dogs were rescued, however 43 reportedly died in the blaze.
Local residents said they could hear "dogs yelping" as the fire spread. Hundreds of residents flocked to the site in Moss Brook Road with dog blankets, cages and food, with some reportedly helping to save some of the animals. More than 30 firefighters brought the blaze under control with damage caused to about a third of the kennels.

A joint investigation by Greater Manchester Police and Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service is under way as dampening down at the Home continues. Superintendent Marcus Noden said: "We are working closely with Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service to establish how this tragedy has occurred.
"We are in the very early stages of the investigation and have a young boy in custody, however we would ask if anyone was in the area and remembers seeing anything suspicious around the Dogs’ Home that they call police and tell us what they know. As a dog owner myself I understand that many people will feel angry and upset about what has happened but I would ask that they let the police carry out their investigations and not take matters into their own hands.
"We have received an overwhelming response from the public and would ask if anyone wants to help they can make donations of food or bedding to North Manchester divisional headquarters on Northampton Road in Newton Heath."

GMFRS station commander Paul Duggan said that some parts of the roof of the single-storey kennel section had collapsed and firefighters were working to ensure it was made safe before assessing the full damage. Anna Stansfield, manager of Cheshire Dogs Home, described the blaze as "soul destroying" and added all the rescued dogs would be transferred to its site in Cheshire.

She said she could not comment on the circumstances of the blaze but confirmed that four members of staff were working there at the time. Ms Stansfield said: "I cannot describe what we have seen tonight. It’s soul destroying. We are so grateful to the people of Manchester and Greater Manchester who have come to support us but we need to get the roads clear so we can get the dogs out."
Manchester & Cheshire Dogs’ Home opened in 1893 and has rehomed more than one million dogs. The registered charity is said to care for more than 7,000 stray and unwanted dogs each year and manages to rehome 95% of them. A surge in donations on its its JustGiving website took place in the wake of the blaze.
Among those donating were Dominic Hunt who wrote "Heartbreaking. I wish I could give more" and Susan and Leanne Gresty, who said: "There are no words to describe the sadness we are feeling for the poor little animals who have lost their lives and those that are suffering tonight."

Singer Jodie Prenger, a patron for Manchester & Cheshire Dogs’ Home, tweeted: " All my thoughts are with you guys. It’s broke my heart to hear such sad news."
Battersea Dogs & Cats Home said it was "incredibly saddened" to learn of the fire. A spokeswoman said: "We extend our deepest sympathies to all the staff and volunteers at the centre.
"We understand this tragic incident may have led to the loss of life of several rescue dogs. Battersea is very willing to help in any way we can over the coming days and weeks and we have attempted contact with the Manchester rescue centre to see how we can support them at this difficult time."

The Family Tree of Dogs: From tiny Chihuahuas to Rottweilers – this infographic reveals exactly how Every Breed is related

  • Family Tree highlights the diversity of dogs and how the pure breeds are interconnected
  • Chart features 181 dog breeds From tiny ‘toy’ animals like the pug and the fluffy pomeranian to working dogs like the Alaskan malamutes and Family favourites such as golden retrievers and terriers
  • It might seem incredible that dogs with such different visible characteristics – From their size to their type of hair – can be so different, but it is because all dogs are members of the same species – Canis lupus familiaris

Have you ever wondered how tiny chihuahua can be Related to a rottweiler or a pit bull terrier can be similar to a dalmatian?

One artist has created a dog Family Tree that highlights the diversity of dogs and how breeds are interconnected.

From terriers to toys and mountain dogs to sight hounds, it delineates almost Every standard pure-breed dog so you can see how one canine is connected to another.

From pugs to pinchers and spaniels to samoyeds, one artist has created a dog Family Tree (pictured) that highlights the diversity of dogs and how breeds are interconnected

The chart features 181 dog breeds From tiny ‘toy’ animals like the pug and the fluffy pomeranian to working dogs like the Alaskan malamutes and Family favourites such as golden retrievers and terriers.

For example, the chart shows that a chihuahua – the smallest Breed of dog that heralds From Mexico – can be easily linked to rottweilers, which are popularly known to make good – and sometimes ferocious – guard dogs.
According to the chart, Chihuahuas are part of the toy group and are closely Related to toy pinchers, which are in turn linked to pinchers and then common guard dogs such as the rotweiller.
In the similar way, the giant saint bernard is Related to the little pug via the working dogs group, then common guard dogs group, followed by the pincher and toy pincer groups, which then link to the ‘toy’ dogs of which the pug is a member.

From terriers to toys – such as pugs, pomeranians and shih tzus (pictured in this portion of the chart) – and mountain dogs to sight hounds, the dog Family Tree delineates almost Every standard pure-breed dog so you can see how one dog is connected to another

It might seem incredible that dogs with such different visible characteristics – From their size to their type of hair – can be so different, but it is because all dogs are members of the same species – Canis lupus familiaris.
Their genetic code is relatively simple compared to other species and is therefore easily adaptable as drastic changes – such as the type of hair or ears – is controlled by a single genetic variation.

The Family Tree makes it easy to see which dogs belong to the same ‘family’ groups. For instance, groups of dogs such as setters, pointers, spaniels and retrievers belong to the ‘sporting dogs’ group, as well as individual breeds including the vizsla and wirehaired pointing griffon.

Dalmatians are relatively closely Related to a number of unlikely breeds. According to the chart, the spotty dogs are closely linked to the diminutive French bulldog and candy-floss like bichon frise.

The ‘diagram of dogs’ is for sale as a limited edition print and Pop Chart Lab, the company selling it, said: ‘Dog lovers of Every preference are sure to spot their favourite canine compadre in this pedigreed presentation of man’s best friends – a taxonomical treat that’s best in show.’

According to a study published earlier this year, dogs and wolves evolved From a common ancestor between 11,000 and 34,000 years ago.

It might seem incredible that dogs with such different visible characteristics – From their size to their type of hair – can be so different, but it is because all dogs are members of the same species – Canis lupus familiaris. Some of the largest types of dogs fall in the ‘working dogs’ category, which is shown in this part of the dog Family tree

U.S. scientists said that part of the genetic overlap observed between some modern dogs and wolves is the result of interbreeding after dog domestication and not a direct line of descent From one group of wolves.

They believe their research reflects a more complicated history than the popular story that early farmers adopted a few docile, friendly wolves that later became our modern canine companions.

Instead, the earliest dogs may have first lived among hunter-gatherer societies and adapted to agricultural life later, according to the study.

Researchers From the University of Chicago said that dogs are more closely Related to each other than to wolves, regardless of geographic origin as they do not descend From a single line of wolves.

THE DAZZLING DIVERSITY OF Dogs: HOW DOGS LOOK SO DIFFERENT BUT ARE ESSENTIALLY THE SAME

خليجية

Every Breed of dog is a member of exactly the same species – Canis lupus familiaris, regardless of its coat, shape or size.

While some variation between breeds has occurred naturally, most of the very obvious differences are the direct result of human breeding.

Many dogs nowadays are bred for their aesthetic qualities but in the past there were more practical motivations behind human intervention in the gene pool.

Lots of dogs were raised to be the best possible hunters, such as the dachshund, which was bred to get in to badgers’ setts with their low, narrow entrances – hence its ****, which means ‘badger dog’ in German.

One possible reason dogs are so easily adaptable is because changing their genetic code is relatively simple compared to many other species.

In human genes, for example, nearly Every characteristic is governed by a complex network of genes, which work in combination to display certain outcomes.

But with dogs, many quite drastic changes, such as fur type and ear shape, are controlled by a single genetic variation.

In fact, a huge research project called CanMap determined that Every single biological difference affecting dogs’ appearance is controlled by one of around 50 gene variations.

This simplicity is partly a result of the human activity which has tinkered with canine biology for thousands of years, and has therefore picked out the characteristics most easily changed by simple genes.

Charlize Theron on her son & her dogs: ‘They’re all my children, love is love’

خليجية

Her first time watching Mad Max: “I saw Mad Max, and I remember certain images: the road, the cars going really fast. But I didn’t know who Mel Gibson was. I thought he was just some dude who had a really cool job. In South Africa, we didn’t have the whole celebrity thing—I had no idea that people knew actors’ names.”

Shooting Mad Max in Namibia, close to South Africa: “I was conflicted. Every**** knows that feeling of going home and being giddy and then, at the same time, wanting to projectile vomit. [Laughs] The shoot lasted an eternity—we were there for seven months.”

Shaving her head for the role:
“At first, my character was going to be ghostlike and albino. And then I thought it would be stronger to shave my head. I called George [Miller] and told him my plan. He went silent, which I thought was a good sign. So I borrowed some clippers and buzzed it all off…. yes, it was really fun to shower with my bald head. You have not showered until you’ve showered hairless. That’s all I have to say.”

Her dogs and her son:
“They’re all my children. I know people get weirded out when people talk that way about their animals, but love is love and care is care, and just because one needs a diaper and the other does not doesn’t mean you don’t have a deep feeling for them. The loss of some of my dogs has been just as devastating as the loss of a family member.”

Judgy about aging:
“I do know that choosing to be a mom in my late 30s has been really great for me. It’s given me perspective… I think, like many women, I was judgmental toward women as they aged. Women, in our society, are compartmentalized so that we start to feel like we’re cut flowers and after a while we will wilt. I realize now that’s not the case—we can celebrate every age. That’s my encouragement to 20-year-olds who are terrified of getting older: Don’t have a nervous breakdown and don’t hit the Chardonnay too hard. Getting older is not that bad.”

People are dumping their ‘handbag dogs’ when they realize they’re more than just accessories

Pet charity Blue Cross warn of rise in people dumping ‘handbag dogs’ because they’re too much work | Metro News

Abandonment of ‘handbag dogs’ is on the rise (Picture: Getty)

Yet more proof that people are stupid.

Animal charity Blue Cross are calling for people to do a spot of research before buying a dog, after a steep rise in the increase of ‘handbag dogs’ – which include breeds like pugs, Yorkshire terriers and Chihuahuas – being abandoned.

The pet charity has seen an 120 percent rise in the number of ‘handbag dogs’ being handed into their ****ters in the past five years, and are concerned that this number will continue to rise unless people start treating these dogs like animals rather than fashion accessories.

خليجية
The trend has been led by ‘celebrities’ like Paris Hilton (Picture: Paris Hilton/ Instagram)

And it seems their fears are founded. A survey of pet owners showed that nearly a third spent less than a week researching what pet to get, with 38 per cent admitting to spending more time researching the purchase of a new mobile phone or tablet.

A further 18 per cent even admitted to buying a pet on impulse.

خليجية
Yorkies are the most abandoned ‘handbag dog’ (Picture: Flickr/ Shin_s)

Kellie Brookes, Blue Cross Rehoming Centre Manager, said: ‘Sadly, people often think these little dogs won’t be much trouble to care for and it’s often too late when they realise they don’t have time.’

She went on: ‘Celebrities may have people to look after their pets for them, but for most of us even little dogs like these Yorkies pups are going to take up time with their training and exercise needs if we want them to be happy and well-behaved.’

Five most commonly abandoned ‘handbag dogs’

1. Yorkshire terrier
2. Chihuahua
3. Cavalier King Charles spaniel
4. Bichon frise
5. Shih tzu

And it’s not just people buying dogs without thinking that’s the problem.

Kellie also warned of people who think breeding these dogs might be an easy way to make a few bucks, saying: ‘People may also think that breeding ‘handbag’ pups is a good way to make a bit of money, but it can be more difficult to find good homes for them than you imagine.’

خليجية
No, dogs are not accessories

She concluded with these words of wisdom: ‘A little bit of research about a pet’s needs before taking the plunge can save a lot of heartache later on.’

Seriously people, if you want to treat yourself to an impulse purchase buy a T-shirt, not an animal.
