Sipping coffee at a fashionable beach cafe in Malibu, Nicollette Sheridan made polite conversation with the handsome stuntman sitting across the table.
They touched on his childhood in Sweden, where his father was a carpenter, and her rather more privileged upbringing as an [عزيزي الزائر يتوجب عليك التسجيل لمشاهدة الرابط للتسجيل اضغط هنا] English public schoolgirl.
Then the 40 year old actress made a surprising suggestion. "Do you want to be my sperm donor?" she asked Niklas Soderblom.
Soderblom was shocked, tantalised and, in that moment, smitten.
And in the hit Channel 4 series Desperate Housewives, she plays Edie Britt, a seductress who is devoting her middle years to a search for ***ual bliss.
"I took it as her way of telling me she found me attractive. It certainly worked," says Soderblom, a dashing 6ft 1in, 42 year old who is moving to Switzerland to escape the relationship he claims ruined his life.
Within weeks of their first meeting in November 2024, Soderblom, then 39, had left his long time girlfriend and embarked on an affair with Nicollette. And on Christmas Eve 2024 she [عزيزي الزائر يتوجب عليك التسجيل لمشاهدة الرابط للتسجيل اضغط هنا] accepted his proposal of marriage.
He bought her a diamond ring from Tiffany’s and when she asked him to abandon his dreams of Hollywood stardom, he eagerly accepted.
She needed him to be available 24/7, she said, to help her with public appearances and the other growing demands of her career.
But if Soderblom thought she would reciprocate with the kind of wild ***ual scenes that are her on screen hallmark, he was very much mistaken.
Instead, he says, he found himself with a woman who was cold, spiteful and more dysfunctional than any of the Desperate Housewives of Wisteria Lane.
During childlike tantrums, he claims, she would taunt him with stories about her many previous lovers.
Banishing him from the master bedroom at her Bel Air home, she would guzzle ice cream, then fall asleep among the English country house style furnishings, cuddling the only living thing she seemed to really cherish her golden retriever Oliver.
With Desperate Housewives about to enter its fourth season, Soderblom has finally had enough.
He has written a devastating account of their relationship in a new book, Desperate Houseman, which is being looked at by prospective publishers in Britain and the US.
"Love is blind," he told The Mail on Sunday last [عزيزي الزائر يتوجب عليك التسجيل لمشاهدة الرابط للتسجيل اضغط هنا] night. "There were things about Nicollette’s behaviour that struck me as very strange from the start, but I let them go.
"I was in love with her and I thought I was Superman, that I could save her from herself. But the truth is that she is a very troubled woman who could not be more different from Edie.
"Edie is a funny, flirty, ***y man eater. Nicollette flirts and can be funny, but that’s just to catch you. She likes the excitement and the challenge of landing a new man but it never lasts. She is just a lost, angry little girl who has never grown up.
"After she landed me, there was no relationship at all. There was no ***. There was not even a friendship. She would dress in Ugg boots and old trousers and just shut herself in the bedroom with the dog.
"When we were together, all she did was fight. She would fly up at me like a rocket, calling me an ‘idiot’ or a ‘wimp’, screaming obscenities.
"She didn’t blame her problems on herself. She blamed them on me and she thought the way to deal with that was to move on to a new man. I feel very sorry for her because ultimately she is going to end up totally alone."
On the face of it, Nicollette hardly seems a figure of pity. She is the daughter of British actress Sally Adams, who had a long running romance with movie star Telly Savalas after Nicollette was born.
Educated at Millfield, the exclusive public school in Somerset, Nicollette exudes self confidence and she was living in considerable opulence on her royalties from Knots Landing when she first met Soderblom.
Behind the successful facade, however, she had a trail of shattered relationships.
Her previous boyfriends included Oscar winner Timothy Hutton and Happy Days star Scott Baio. She was married fleetingly to actor Harry Hamlin and in 1993, she dated singer Michael Bolton.
Soderblom, however, knew nothing of this when he first encountered her at the Malibu health club where he was working as a trainer while attempting to use his experience as a stuntman in Sweden to develop an acting career in Hollywood.
"Desperate Housewives was still in the development stage. When she walked into the club, I had no clue who she was. She was wearing big sunglasses which she kept on indoors and she was accompanied by a big, hairy old dog," he said.
