Blythe Danner Says Gwyneth Paltrow’s Critics Might Just Be ‘Kind of Intimidated’

Gwyneth Paltrow is famous for her polarizing public persona.
However, her mother Blythe Danner wanted to set the record straight on her ‘extraordinary’ daughter as she dropped by TODAY on Wednesday to promote her upcoming film I’ll See You In My Dreams.
‘I think she’s so accomplished that people get kind of intimidated by it,’ the 72-year-old explained, adding: ‘Great ****, great mom, great actress.’

She had Just been talking about her busy Mother’s Day celebrations, as she traveled from the west to east coasts to celebrate with each of her children.
‘I went from L.A. where they are to New York where my son and his wife and little baby girl are,’ Blythe said. ‘I was very lucky to have the whole family within 24 hours.’
Then TODAY’s Natalie Morales questioned the leading lady on how she handles the harsh criticism of her daughter Gwyneth.

She said: ‘I am so blessed that I’m old. I don’t know how to Twitter, toot, tweet. I don’t know how to do any of it, and I don’t look for it, because I know so much of it is Just trying to sell papers or whatever that’s called over the Internet.’
‘I know that she’s the most extraordinary girl who can do everything,’ Blythe continued of Gwyneth. ‘Incredible mother! She’s raising hundreds of thousands of dollars for my husband’s oral cancer foundation – things she doesn’t talk about a lot.’
‘She’s becoming a great environmentalist. I’m so proud of her,’ the mother-of-two continued to gush about the controversial star.
‘And my son is pretty fabulous, too! A great writer,’ Proud mother Blythe was quick to add, not wanting to leave out her son, Jake Paltrow.

Blythe also spoke about her upcoming film I’ll See You In My Dreams, in which she plays a widow who decides to embrace life anew.
Natalie pointed out that Blythe was celebrating 50 years as an actress, with I’ll See You In My Dreams marking the first time the Broadway and Off-Broadway star held a leading role in a film.
‘What a way to celebrate,’ the actress exclaimed, of the role, after all of her years in the business. ‘It’s such a gift.’
She continued, adding: ‘Every so often I’d get a role in a movie and I’d be so grateful, but I never expected this.’
She stars alongside June Squibb, Rhea Perlman, Sam Elliott, Malin Akerman, and Martin Starr, in the film which earned the actress a standing ovation during its Sundance Film Festival screening.
And Blythe was certainly busy promoting the festival darling, as later that morning she was also spotted visiting SiriusXM Studios in New York City.

She looked sophisticated in a fitted white suit, which she coupled with a form-fitting black button down blouse.
The Meet The Parents actress finished off the look with a pair of stylish black flats, accessorizing her white blazer with a silver brooch.
She wore her long hair down, styled in loose curls, and sported an elegant pair of dangling pearl earrings.
‘I think now that the baby boomer generation is coming along now, everyone is longing for films like this,’ Blythe said.
‘I think women are so appreciative to see that this is a woman in her 70s taking charge and being strong, continuing through her difficult time of loss, and carrying on in a very positive way.’
‘This film, even though people are in tears, they laugh their heads off,’ Blythe added, of the movie, which premieres May 15.
