Jon Hamm: It’s easy to be an actor, ‘it’s hard to be a baby-heart surgeon’

Why he’s interested in comedy: “I was just kind of that weird kid that always hung around… And you know, comedians are generally pretty nice people. I have no affinity for it other than my appreciation of it. I had no desire to get up onstage and tell jokes. I prefer to stand next to really funny people. I was always good at being observationally funny—like contributing something funny to the conversation.”

Whether Don Draper dies at the end of Mad Men: “I certainly can’t confirm or deny anything.”

Hamm never sugarcoats Don Draper: “I’m the guy who lives with the guy every day, and I’m like, ‘No, no, no, no, no,’ ” he says of people who would excuse the character’s behavior. “But I also get the thing in popular culture, American culture, where you see a broken thing and go, ‘I want to fix that. I want to shape that. I want to cure that.’ ”

The difficulties of being an actor: “Whenever people want to talk about how hard it is to be an actor, I want to go, ‘Um, It’s hard to be a baby-heart surgeon.’ Being an actor is actually pretty easy, if you can memorize lines,” he says. Still, he admits that It’s been draining to follow Don on his repeated downward spirals. “You’re kind of hoping for redemption, and It’s not forthcoming…. To consistently come in and be the bummer was always like, ‘Oh, that’s not fun.’ But at the same time, It’s been like the greatest obstacle course in the world. A puzzle to figure out.”

His career future: “Look, the one constant thing I’ve had in my career is now removed. And that’s an eye-opener: Are people still going to take me seriously? Am I just going to do romantic comedies for the rest of my life? What’s next? And I don’t know, you know? I wish I was smug enough to have had a grand plan. I guess some people would say, ‘Okay, the last three years of Mad Men is going to be like this: I want to do a play. I want to do this. I want to do that.’ I was just like, ‘I want to do something that seems cool.’ ”

Denzel Washington detoxes after hard partying

Denzel Washington just left an Orange County residence where he was staying for more than 2 weeks to detox after a wild, alcohol-fueled, gluttonous month-long vacation … TMZ has learned.

Sources connected with the actor tell TMZ Denzel was on a yacht during the month of July with his wife … and was partying and partying hard.

When he returned to L.A. … our sources say Denzel went to the OC residence where he had professionals help him "detox."

One source says this was more than just alcohol … it was an overall cleanse for toxins. In addition to the professional who supervised the detox, we’re told Denzel had a nutritionist, a trainer and a chef.

Denzel we’re told is out and back on his game.

Why is white pepper so expensive and/or hard to find?

This drives me crazy. I love white pepper on stuff – chicken, pork, mashed potatoes, etc. But out here, it costs $4 for a tiny bottle (usually by McCormick). I buy it in bulk at a health food store out here and it costs less. But what kills me is that it comes from the exact same freaking plant as black pepper, and it costs WAY more per unit weight than black pepper. I looked up the process of creating white pepper and it’s not like it’s complicated to process it.

Concern is growing for Kate Moss after it was revealed that an ambulance was called to collect the supermodel from a late-night party.
Details of the incident at the end of last year emerged yesterday – just hours after Miss Moss was seen looking unkempt and wild-eyed at a party in Paris with Lady Gaga.
Mystery surrounds why the ambulance was called for Miss Moss after she had celebrated late into the night at the ultra-chic London hotel and restaurant, The Chiltern Firehouse.
Sources at the celebrity haunt told The Mail on Sunday that a private ambulance was called for Kate, who had attended the 60th birthday celebrations of photographer Mario Testino.
It was her second consecutive night out and, after Mario’s party ended, Kate, 41, continued celebrating with friends in a guest room at the Marylebone hotel owned by Andre Balazs.
Sources close to Kate said last night that friends and husband Jamie Hince were concerned by the incident and have advised her it is time to slow down.
A source said: ‘It is being referred to as “the incident” by Andre. No one knows exactly what happened but she was taken ill very suddenly and an ambulance was called.’
Another source said: ‘Recently, Kate held a party at her home in London that was still going on when Jamie woke up in the morning.
‘He made it clear he was surprised she had not gone to bed but she told him it was her house and her rules and she has no intention of slowing down any time soon.
‘But he and others do feel it is time for her to start catching up on some sleep.’
Despite the concern, Kate looked in need of rest as she partied in Paris this weekend with Lady Gaga.
The two were seen together on a party bus at an event for Paris Fashion Week.

Kate looked uncharacteristically scruffy as she joined a much younger crowd which included designer Alexander Wang, 31, as well as Lady Gaga, 28, who looked composed and ***** by comparison to her older companion.
Although Lady Gaga wore towering stilettoes, it was Kate who apparently required assistance leaving the bus, called Club Haussmann.

Jamie Hince, 46, is thought to have skipped the Paris trip to remain at Kate’s £8 million North London home with her daughter Lila Grace, 12, whose father is Dazed Group publisher Jefferson Hack.
Last night Andre Balazs said of the ambulance incident: ‘I cannot talk about that.’
A spokesman for Kate Moss did not respond to requests for comment.
