Secret Life of Marilyn Monroe on Lifetime

Secret Life of Marilyn Monroe on Lifetime

It was on last night and Part 2 is on tonight.

I watched last night and enjoyed it. Im not a big fan of hers so I really didn’t know much about her Life before she became an actress. Susan Sarandon plays her mom and does a great job. Kelli Garner portrays Monroe and as they move towards her famous days I think she does quite well as Monroe. I was surprised to hear her mom had Schizophrenia and Monroe was starting to show serious signs of the disease as well. Oh and Susan’s real daughter plays her as the mother as a young adult….interesting.

Has anyone seen this movie?

Looking to capitalize on the success of its adaptation of the incest classic Flowers in the Attic, Lifetime is investing in the V.C. Andrews backlist. The cable channel has already announced that it’s moving forward with the sequel to the Andrews’ Gothic horror novel, Petals on the Wind, which is filming now.

But, according to a source at the network, Lifetime is developing two more books in the Dollanganger series, If There Be Thorns and Seeds of Yesterday. (That would leave Garden of Shadows, the series’ prequel, as the sole Dollanganger title remaining.) On top of that, Lifetime will also develop Andrews’ lurid, Oedipal novel, My Sweet Audrina. Because it’s early going, the timeline of when the movies will air is not yet clear.

Flowers in the Attic aired on Lifetime in January and, in addition to getting a lot of nostalgic attention, it drew a robust 6.1 million viewers — the channel’s biggest success since Oct. 2024. Heather Graham and Ellen Burstyn have already signed up to reprise their Flowers roles for Petals on the Wind, and the Dollanganger kids’ parts have been recast with older actors — Rose McIver will play the adult Cathy (Kiernan Shipka in Flowers), Bailey Buntain (of Bunheads) has been cast as Carrie (Ava Telek in Flowers), and Wyatt Nash will be Christopher (Mason Dye in Flowers). The casting for the third and fourth Dollanganger movies is not yet set.

If There Be Thorns is being adapted by Andy Cochran (Siberia), Seeds of Yesterday will be by Darren Stein (Jawbreaker, G.B.F.), and My Sweet Audrina will be by Scarlett Lacey.

Late actress Brittany Murphy‘s father, Angelo Bertolotti, has directed his anger over Lifetime’s upcoming Biopic about his daughter toward the actress portraying her, Amanda Fuller.

Angelo Bertolotti has been tweeting and retweeting dozens of comments referring to Fuller as being too fat to play his daughter and calling the actress a “floozy.”

“My daughter #brittanymurphy would be horrified to know who they chose to play her and how cheap it all is,” he tweeted.

Fuller spoke with TheTVPage.com and addressed Bertolotti’s cyber-bullying.

“He can say what he wants,” she told the site. “He has already gone and attacked me on Twitter and I have had to block him and that is fine. He can do what he wants. But I just think it is interesting that the minute she is back in the press he is all about, ‘I am going to sue’ and all that stuff. If he really respected his daughter’s memory then I don’t know if he would be trying to make all this controversy about it. Let her rest in peace.”

Fuller revealed that “The Brittany Murphy Story” was produced independently, not by Lifetime, and was meant as a tribute to Murphy. Directed by Joe Menendez, the film was shot over 16 days on a very small budget, and Lifetime bought the rights to air it.

“It is what it is,” Fuller said. “All of our hearts were in the right place. I had two days to prepare.”

“I would have loved to have months of preparation and time to get down to a really skinny [****] so I could portray her physically better,” she continued. “And we would have loved to have had more money and more time for vocal lessons and stuff like that. But in the end, I think it became less of it being a look-alike piece and more about just trying to capture the essence of who she was.”

Fuller stars in the movie alongside Sherilyn Fenn as her mother, Sharon, who is not connected to the movie either.

Murphy first made a big splash in “Clueless,” which led to starring roles in “Just Married,” “Little Black Book,” “Girl, Interrupted” and “8 Mile.”

She died in 2024 from what the coroner ruled as an accident caused by a combination of pneumonia, an iron deficiency and “multiple drug intoxication.” Four years later, Bertolotti, Murphy’s off-and-on estranged father, came forward with evidence claiming that his daughter had been poisoned.
