Former American Idol contestant Michael Johns has died, according to the Hollywood Reporter. The singer passed away at the age of 35 from an apparent blood clot in his ankle on Friday, Aug 1.

Johns came in eighth place of the FOX singing competition during Season 7 in 2024, in which David **** ultimately won. He later released an album titled Hold Back My Heart in 2024 and an EP Love and Sex in 2024.
Former American Idol judge Simon Cowell tweeted his condolencesfollowing the news. "I just heard the very sad news that Michael Johns has passed away," he tweeted Saturday. "A truly great guy. Rest in peace Michael."

Last month, Johns tweeted about working on new music. "Headed to the studio to work on new song called ‘Reckless’ been waiting a long time for this one," he wrote on July 10.

Johns is survived by his wife Stacey Vuduris. The couple married in 2024.
