Hugh Laurie and Tom Hiddleston are coming to TV in an espionage drama.
The duo is set to star in a TV adaptation of John le Carre’s The Night Manager, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter, with WME fielding multiple offers from U.S. networks for a straight-to-series pickup.
The drama is being developed in partnership with the BBC, which will air the series in the U.K. Ink Factory (A Most Wanted Man) is producing. David Farr (Hanna, Spooks) will pen the adaptation.
Published in 1993, le Carre’s Night Manager follows Jonathan Pine, a British soldier turned luxurious hotel night auditor. Pine crosses paths with a French-Arab woman named Sophie with ties to Richard Onslow Roper, an English black marketer who specializes in weapons. The woman provides Pine with incriminating ********s, which he forwards to a friend in British intelligence. After Sophie winds up dead, Pine works with intelligence operatives and goes undercover as part of a sting against Roper to avenge Sophie’s death.
For Laurie, the series would mark the in-demand actor’s return to TV following his Emmy-nominated run on Fox’s House. He’s repped by WME, the U.K.’s Hamilton Hodell and Ziffren Brittenham. The show also will mark Hiddleston’s largest U.S. TV role to date. The Thor and Avengers star previously featured in British black comedy Suburban Shootout, Wallander and more recently had voice roles on Robot Chicken and Family Guy. He’s repped by WME, the U.K.’s Hamilton Hodell, Authentic Talent and Literary, and Peikoff Mahan. Farr is with Paradigm and the U.K.’s Curtis Brown Group.
For le Carre, Night Manager would mark his latest TV foray joining Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, A Perfect Spy, A Murder of Quality and more. On the film side, his adaptations include A Most Wanted Man, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, The Constant Gardener, The Spy Who Came In From the Cold and more.

Thor actor Tom Hiddleston looks set to star in the highly-anticipated sequel to Mel Gibson’s 1995 classic Braveheart.
According to emails exposed by WikiLeaks, the 34-year-old will take on the role of Scotland’s warrior king Robert the Bruce in the upcoming film, entitled Lion Rampant.
Directed by David Mackenzie, the movie will be shot in Scotland and will also potentiality feature Jack O’Connell and Emma Stone.

In a subsequent email exchange between Ms Pascal and Eric Fellner – a Working Title producer, even more details about the film were revealed.
‘It is the story that follows on in history from Braveheart,’ he explained in one message.
‘It is an epic tale of action and romance.’

‘We are out to get [her]’: According to the email exchange, film insiders are keen to get actress Emma Stone to star in the highly-anticipated film as well


Mr Fellner then appeared to confirm Hiddleston and O’Connell’s roles in the film, however, hinted that Stone was not yet fully on board with the project.
Nevertheless, he seemed determined to persuade the actress to sign up to the project: ‘We are out to get Emma Stone.’
If Lion Rampant does go ahead, the film will tell the tale of Robert the Bruce, who fought a series of wars with the English before leading his country to victory in the Wars Of Scottish Independence.
Neither Hiddleston’s agent nor his manager were available for comment.
