Napster blocks ****llica fans

Last week, the band delivered 13 boxes full of legal ********s identifying usernames of people who allegedly made ****llica songs available online and demanded that they be blocked from the MP3 music swapping service. As reported yesterday, the music company agreed, but it cautioned that "it is possible that users have been mistakenly implicated.""Napster has taken extraordinary steps to comply with ****llica’s demands to block hundreds of thousands of its fans from using the Napster system," Fenwick West attorney Lawrence Pulgram, who represents Napster, said in a statement today. Under earlier versions of the software, [عزيزي الزائر يتوجب عليك التسجيل لمشاهدة الرابط للتسجيل اضغط هنا] people could have reinstalled the program and logged in under a [عزيزي الزائر يتوجب عليك التسجيل لمشاهدة الرابط للتسجيل اضغط هنا] different name. But the company has added a feature that can tell whether a Napster user has been blocked, and it keeps most individuals from signing up using a different identity.Still, more trouble could be on the way. Los Angeles attorney Howard King, who represents ****llica and rap artist Dr. Dre, said that Napster’s service is still being scanned for people who might be pirating the rapper’s music, and that a new list of usernames will be sent to Napster next week.Napster’s music swapping program, which allows computer users to open their hard drives and quickly trade MP3 files with thousands of other people online, has thrown a panic into the music industry. ****llica and rapper Dr. Dre last month filed their own suits against Napster. But [عزيزي الزائر يتوجب عليك التسجيل لمشاهدة الرابط للتسجيل اضغط هنا] ****llica raised the stakes on the legal battles last week. That put Napster in a legal bind: block its subscribers or risk undermining some [عزيزي الزائر يتوجب عليك التسجيل لمشاهدة الرابط للتسجيل اضغط هنا] of the legal arguments that it is using to counter the record industry’s court attacks.Napster has chosen the safer legal path, but it was careful to let its members know that they have a way to appeal their eviction.Appealing the action could [عزيزي الزائر يتوجب عليك التسجيل لمشاهدة الرابط للتسجيل اضغط هنا] lead to reactivation of a Napster account, but it also could expose a person to a lawsuit from ****llica, the company said. Napster offered a full explanation of the appeal process on its Web site.****llica’s lawyer said the band was unlikely to take its effort that far, however."Obviously, Napster knows ****llica then faces a Hobson’s choice: Do they sue people who may or may not be fans?" King said. "But I don’t think ****llica is going to sue fans, period, unless there’s been wholesale infringement."Despite ****llica’s actions, scores of the band’s songs were stillavailable through Napster as late as this morning. The new Napster software, which keeps people locked out even if they try to register a new username, could help the company in its legal battle against the RIAA.

The Tick review

I am the wild blue yonder. The front line in a never ending battle between good and not so good. Together with my stalwart sidekick, Arthur, and the magnanimus help of some other folks I know, we form the yin to villany’s malevolent yang. Destiny has chosen us. Wicked men, you face The Tick.

The Tick live action TV show intro

After the big blue bug’s cartoon show was cancelled in 1996, The Tick’s fans begged for more, and the Fox Network gave it to them in 2001. What we got was a mixed blessing.

If I were to describe The Tick in one catchy soundbite, it would be Seinfeld with funny costumes except Kramer and George are the star and costar. Quite unlike the cartoon, the show focused on the characters of The Tick, Arthur, Captain Liberty, and Batmanuel; mostly everyday life as it applies to superheroes rather than a supervillain of the week. Although people who have actual superpowers occasionally show up, there is very little action and almost no display of super abilities. Like the 2000 movie The Specials, The Tick uses the superhero genre as a comic backdrop for stories that are sillier for having people in tights running around.

The Tick himself is played by Patrick Warburton, who most people would recognize as David Puddy from Seinfeld. He’s certainly built right for the part and has a square jaw and a good shouty voice essential for The Tick. His costume is a foam rubber looking muscle suit with antennae on his head. The antennae weird me out. Half the time they look puppet controlled and half the time they look CGI. I suppose it’s possible they used both effects depending on the situation. They add a bit of extra expression to The Tick’s face and provide some eye candy during long dialogue sequences. The Tick is easily the funniest part of the show, his comically overblown monologues familiar to any fan continue to be the high point of the series. Although the show’s budget doesn’t allow for too much, I also found his casual displays of super strength entertaining.

Unfortunately the live action series seemed to miss what I thought was the funny part about The Tick. In the comic and the cartoon, he was like a child trying to act like an adult. This, to my way of thinking, is funny. [عزيزي الزائر يتوجب عليك التسجيل لمشاهدة الرابط للتسجيل اضغط هنا] The Tick didn’t live in the same world everyone else did, and he was never forced to. He was a man with no past and no identity, as though he simply stepped out of a silver age comic book and expected the world to be like that, and simply ignored those inconvenient parts of it that weren’t. The Tick had no secret identity and seemed unaware that he was wearing a costume. He was simply. The Tick.

The live action Tick seemed more like a man who had forgotten that he ever had a past. He came across [عزيزي الزائر يتوجب عليك التسجيل لمشاهدة الرابط للتسجيل اضغط هنا] not as a child trying to be an adult, but an adult who acts like a child. He is occasionally forced to face the real world and deals with it by simply refusing to pay attention. This is more annoying than funny, and irritates me on the same level as Adam Sandler movies.

As for the rest of the cast, Arthur (David Burke) is still an accountant who buys a moth suit and quits his dull job for the exciting life of a superhero, however ill suited he is to the lifestyle. He’s the only voice of sanity and reason in the cast, which more often than not actually just gets in the way. Although everyone assumes the powerless Arthur is the sidekick, he’s clearly the brains of the duo and often resolves the episode’s conflict.

Batmanuel (Nestor Carbonell) and Captain Liberty (Liz Vassey) are obvious knock offs of Die Fledermaus and American Maid from the cartoon show (who are themselves parodies of Batman and Captain America). The two are made more human and given more character development though for the live action show.

Although Batmanuel is still cowardly, ineffectual, and entirely too full of himself (and fancies himself a ladies’ man), he’s more than the one dimensional comic relief the cartoon character was. He clearly desires to have all of the advantages of being a superhero (fame, women, his picture in the newspaper) without actually having to fulfill the responsibilities of the post (being a role model, helping people in need, fighting evil).

Captain Liberty has more of a direct connection to the US Government than American [عزيزي الزائر يتوجب عليك التسجيل لمشاهدة الرابط للتسجيل اضغط هنا] Maid ever did. I gather that she was one of the few competent superheroes in The City and got most of the official recognition until The Tick showed up, with his nigh invulerability, super strength, and blustery attitude, and stole her press. As a result she often displays fits of childish jealousy against him and once tried to get him killed. She has an on again off again relationship with Batmanuel because she has no luck in the dating scene (the civilians are too intimidated and the heroes are too egocentric) and he’s always available.

Overall, the series was twice as good as most of the other dreck you’ll find on TV, but Fox has a way of getting good shows cancelled early (see also Futurama and Firefly), and The Tick is no exception, lasting a mere 9 episodes. They are available in a 2 DVD set, with 6 episodes on one and 3 on the other. Some of them have a commentary track by The Tick creator Ben Edlund but the one I listened to wasn’t very interesting. He was mostly talking about the limitations of the budget, what he was trying to do with the characters, and other such obvious issues. Of the nine episodes, the best was The Tick vs. Justice, and if the rest of them had been that good the series might have stood a better chance.

The Episodes

(In DVD order, which is different from the televised order)

Pilot (good)

The pilot episode introduces the main cast and pits them against The Red Scare (taken from [عزيزي الزائر يتوجب عليك التسجيل لمشاهدة الرابط للتسجيل اضغط هنا] the comic in name only), a large red robot built in 1979 to assassinate President Jimmy Carter. A group of communists somehow got a hold of it after the collapse of the Soviet Union and planned to unleash it on The City as part of a crime wave. Things take an unexpected turn when The Tick, bored with defending a bus station in the middle of nowhere, comes to The City where there’s more crime to fight. Arthur meanwhile quits his job to become a superhero, the two meet Captain Liberty and Batmanuel, and The Tick and Arthur save former president Jimmy Carter from The Red Scare while recycling jokes from the cartoon show. Arthur then forges a friendship with The Tick, who moves into his apartment because he has nowhere else to go.

Trivia: Arthur flies for the first of only two times in the series in the episode. Batmanuel and Captain Liberty’s costumes are noticeably different from the rest of the series. Since most of the clips shown in the opening credits are from the Pilot, this explains why their costumes don’t match what we see in the series.

The Terror (very good)

Set a year after the Pilot episode, Arthur, Captain Liberty, and Batmanuel hold a party on the rooftops to celebrate The Tick and Arthur’s one year anniversary as a superhero duo. This is just a framing device to tell the story of their second adventure. Captain Liberty, jealous of The Tick’s success against The Red Scare, looks for a supervillain for him to fight who can knock him down a few notches. Batmanuel initially enjoys the joke, but when she decides on The Terror (Armin Shimerman) suddenly he doesn’t think it’s so funny anymore. The Terror has been fighting against truth and justice for decades and has sent more than one highly experienced and successful superhero to his DOOM. Fortunately for our heroes, The Terror is 112 years old and quite a bit past his prime.

Trivia: Captain Liberty’s torch/PDA puts The Terror’s birthday at 1905, and another character explicitly states that the episode takes place in 2001, making The Terror only 96 years old, but the Terror admits he’s 112 (and therefore born in 1889). His mother deals with it through straight denial and his sister becomes angry and upset, eventually coming to the point where they have Arthur taken to an asylum where superheroes are deprogrammed. Dave Foley plays the analyst who tries to make Arthur understand that he isn’t special, he’s just like everyone else and is simply having delusions of grandeur in rebellion against a mundane life that he should really be embracing as his own. When his family has second thoughts about what they’ve done, The Tick, Captain Liberty, and Batmanuel storm the asylum to free Arthur and uncover the analyst’s suppressed desire to be a superhero himself.

The License (poor)

In a city full of vigilante heroes, someone has to make sure they’re following the rules and hold them accountable for their actions. In The City this is done through a licensing system, but The Tick doesn’t have a superhero license. Arthur brings him to the DMV to answer a few simple questions and get his license, but the big blue lug doesn’t know his real name, date of birth, or social security number. This is where I think the show really dropped the ball on The Tick. In the comic and the cartoon, no**** knew who he was and came to accept he was simply The Tick, end of story. In the live action show they tried too hard to bring him into the real world, where The Tick simply doesn’t belong. There’s also a side plot involving Captain Liberty trying to date a normal man without letting him know she’s a superhero. Captain Liberty spends most of the episode out of costume, a state of dress extremely rare for every character except Arthur.

Arthur Needs Space (poor)

Arthur bumps into a girl (Missi Pyle) he knew in high school. She was pretty and popular while Arthur was. well, not. Although she wouldn’t give him the time of day back then, now she’s suddenly talking to him and being quite forward in pursuing a relationship. Batmanuel is convinced she is only talking to him because she thinks his superhero suit is ***y ("You think she’s only talking to me because of the suit?" "I am only talking to you because of the suit."), an idea Arthur is decidedly uncomfortable with. Unfortunately his attempts to discover whether or not this is true are hindered by The Tick, who doesn’t seem to understand that superhero teams don’t quite do everything together. I felt this was another poor episode due to The Tick being forced to face the real world again. There’s also a side plot involving nude pictures of Captain Liberty being published in an adult magazine. Fiery Blaze (Ron Perlman) and Friendly Fire are another superhero / sidekick team who bump into The Tick and Arthur while on patrol. It’s a bit unclear if Fiery Blaze actually has any superpowers or not, the pyrotechnics that accompany his appearance could just be a special effect he uses, like Darkwing Duck’s smoke clouds. Either way, the four of them meet for lunch the next day, where it becomes clear that Fiery Blaze horribly abuses his sidekick and takes him for granted. Arthur begins to get worried [عزيزي الزائر يتوجب عليك التسجيل لمشاهدة الرابط للتسجيل اضغط هنا] as The Tick seems to look up to him and is starting to emulate his arrogant attitude toward sidekicks. Friendly Fire quits his partnership with Fiery Blaze and brings Arthur to meet some other disgruntled sidekicks (including a mutant fish man), and Arthur realizes that the Tick isn’t really like that, Fiery Blaze is just being a bad influence. The two make up, and Fiery Blaze shows up to apologize to Friendly Fire for how he treated him and admits he’s lost without his partner. There’s also a side plot involving Captain Liberty attempting to buy a pet dog, but the pet shop owner recognizes the signs of a lonely woman looking for companionship and refuses to sell her one.

Dr Dre headphones symbol of criminals

The legendary rapper’s pricey, high tech headphones, called "Beats by Dr. Dre," are the new rage among bandits because they are seen as "status symbols," a police source said.

Although they have yet to dethrone the iPhone as thieves’ top target, the headphones which retail for US$300 ($295) to US$500 ($492) are being snatched from kids at an alarming rate since the latest model hit the market around Christmas.

"They’re very hot [عزيزي الزائر يتوجب عليك التسجيل لمشاهدة الرابط للتسجيل اضغط هنا] monday among thieves," the source said. "It’s like, ‘I see it. I want it. I can have it. I’m taking it for me, or my sister needs a pair,’" the source said, adding that thieves also resell them.

The [عزيزي الزائر يتوجب عليك التسجيل لمشاهدة الرابط للتسجيل اضغط هنا] perpetrators are beating up youths, threatening them, and, in some cases, brandishing weapons.

Uptown Manhattan and northern [عزيزي الزائر يتوجب عليك التسجيل لمشاهدة الرابط للتسجيل اضغط هنا] parts of Brooklyn have been hit hard.

In Brooklyn North alone which includes Williamsburg there have been dozens of "Beats" heists over the past four [عزيزي الزائر يتوجب عليك التسجيل لمشاهدة الرابط للتسجيل اضغط هنا] months.

"They’re being snatched from teenagers aboard subways or as they walk to and from school," according to the source.

Thefts of the [عزيزي الزائر يتوجب عليك التسجيل لمشاهدة الرابط للتسجيل اضغط هنا] headphones are underreported because they are rarely insured and cannot be traced.

"If you are wearing those headphones, you might as well wear a sign that says, ‘Come and rob me,”’ one investigator said.

A Conversation for Graves’ Disease Hyperthyroidism

Hello, I have just found your article on Grave’s Disease. I have not read it all yet it is very thorough and I [عزيزي الزائر يتوجب عليك التسجيل لمشاهدة الرابط للتسجيل اضغط هنا] am sure very helpful. I am just replying because I have been suffering from it for a number of years probably between 10 and 20 off an on, but am now feeling a lot better. It crept up on me, and probably "yo yo’d" for a long time, so I did not realise what was happening to me until it was very serious. It is also hard to get it diagnosed. It was exacerbated by relational and work stress. I was exercising hard but getting weaker not fitter. I was very hot and thought I had an early menopause. I had shaking hands. I got out of breath. I was anxious and afraid all the time. I had a bad chest so eventually I thought I might have TB. When it was diagnosed I did not want surgery, but had treatment with carbimazole. This helped, but every time I came off the drug, the symptoms came back again. I had very good help from a Chinese doctor, with herbs acupressure, and acupunture, but the problem was with my autoimmune system and hard to control. Eventually, I agreed to a sub total thyroidectomy. That was almost a year ago, and I am now feeling much better better than I was with the thyroid levels controlled with carbimazole. I now take thyroxine every day, probably for life, but that is a hormone supplement, not a drug. I have been left with atrial fibrillation, which is affecting my fitness levels. I am having weekly acupuncture treatment which is helping, while waiting for an electo cardio version to put my heart back in sinus rhythm. If that is successful, my specialist tells me, I will be "cured"! I am currently working on my fitness and stamina to go for my second degree black belt in Aikido, hopefully by the end of the year. I hope this will give hope to anyone suffering from this disease. If you suspect you have it ask your doctor for a thyroid function blood test (also ask for one if you are tired, overweight, have puffy eyes etc you may have an under active thyroid). A friend of mine who is a nurse told me I had an over active thyroid she put the symptom picture together. Unfortunately I did not believe her I was trying to hide the symptoms, for some strange reason, and had thought of a different cause for every symptom. My GP did not diagnose it she was about to send me to ENT with suspected nasal polyps because I was having problems with catarrh. It was only because she also did a broad spectrum blood test, that my ridiculously high levels of thyroid hormone came to light. Thyroid disorders can also cause "mental" and "emotional" symptoms depression, anxiety, over the top emotional reactions. Sudden unexplained weight loss or weight gain are also indicators; weakness of the thighs and upper arms, and breathlessness when going up hills or stairs, can indicate over active thyroid. If you have any suspicions get help and a diagnosis as soon as possible. Thyroid disorder of any kind is harmful and debilitating, if left untreated, but can be controlled and even cured with the right treatment. Good luck.

hugs for Stardust! I’m so glad that my entry was helpful to those who suffer from Graves’ Disease or who need to learn more about the condition. I wrote this entry because I was diagnosed with Graves’ in September of last year, and have spent the last several months learning as much about this condition that so completely changed my way of life as I could. There isn’t much literature or knowledge of Graves’ out there, so it was the least I could do to raise awareness of this life threatening illness. The last six months of my life have been very difficult ad trying, but I’m so glad that my [عزيزي الزائر يتوجب عليك التسجيل لمشاهدة الرابط للتسجيل اضغط هنا] doctors finally diagnosed me and discovered that it was Graves’ that had made me feel so bad for so long. See, for the longest time they just thought I had an anxiety disorder, or some such nonsense. Like you, I’ve probably had this condition for 10+ years (like my grandmother who was diagnosed with Graves’ when she was 18, and my father who was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at the same age), and in all that time not a single one of my doctors thought of checking my thyroid levels. In the meanwhile, my heart rate spiraled out of control, my emotions were wrecked and I was miserable. For a long time after my diagnosis I harbored a lot of hate for these doctors who didn’t treat me effectively. now I am doing everything I can to raise Graves’ Disease awareness, from starting up a Graves’ Disease support group in my area to taking part in the online Graves’ community to this article. It appears that doctors need to be educated on this issue just as much as anyone else. I had my RAI about 5 weeks ago and I feel FABULOUS. I seriously feel better than I have in ten years. I feel 18 again. I had NO idea that I was as sick as I was until I started feeling better, and it put everything into focus. Now I’m taking care of myself exercising and eating better in an attempt to ward off the bad effects of hypothyroidism, and I’m doing all of the little things I never had the energy to do when I was sick. like clean the house or invite friends over. I am so happy I made the right decision for me in treating my Graves’ and I have committed myself to making sure that I take my health by the reigns from now on. Thank you for sharing your [عزيزي الزائر يتوجب عليك التسجيل لمشاهدة الرابط للتسجيل اضغط هنا] Graves’ story. I don’t think many people understand what it’s like to live with this condition unless they are actually suffering from it, but perhaps in time the awareness of this condition and that of all autoimmune disorders can be raised. Take care, and the best of health to you!

Thanks for your reply I found your article very informative and helpful. When I was very hyperthyroid but undiagnosed, my husband and I were going through a very difficult time in our marriage. At the time, one thing I did to try to deal with my feelings was to keep a diary, and also to write some poems. One of them in particular, I realised a year or so later, was a catalogue of hyperthyroid symptoms: My bowel trembles My stomach [عزيزي الزائر يتوجب عليك التسجيل لمشاهدة الرابط للتسجيل اضغط هنا] shrinks My brain gasps for air Crystalline forms of fear Creak down the veins of legs and arms, fingers hesitate, draw back My heart grinds behind my bones My eyes ache, my face burns My lips pull down even if I want to smile My lungs are pumped too hard By a tight drum of muscle Stretched from bone to bone Oscillating, jumping Sprung by sudden gusts of love and fear. My **** hangs loose and ineffective Held tight from rib to rib Pain rises up my throat My mind can understand My heart incomprehends and hurts I only know I love you, More surely, with each glimpse of our unchartered present. Eventually we parted, but are now both healthier and happier than we were then. I realise now I must have been terribly difficult to live with, my emotions were so extreme with the over active thyroid. People could be helped a lot more if they were properly diagnosed if the cause of the over reactive emotions was understood and treated, they would perhaps be easier to deal with, one could adapt as one was recovering. Currently I am receiving great benefit from acupuncture for my residual irregular heart rhythm, and, like you, pay close attention to my diet and get plenty of exercise. At the end of April, I am going for an electrocardioversion to correct my heart rhythm, and hope then to be back to "normal" for good! Thank you again, all the best and good health Stardust

What a powerful poem! You’re right that does mirror various symptoms of Graves’, one of the biggest being the emotional side effects. When I was hyperthyroid I would go into "rages" for example, once I threw a bottle of soda across the room because it sprayed on me when I opened it, and I didn’t care if it hit anyone. Mostly I would just rant and rave, slamming doors, screaming and go into hysterical bouts of crying then I’d be fine, like nothing was the matter. I co habitate with my fiance, and this time when I was really sick was SO difficult for him. but I was incredibly lucky to be with someone so caring and understanding. Not every Graves’ patient is this lucky, and many of them have to weather the storm on their own. We’re both doing really well now, and I’m so glad you’re doing better! It looks like you’re going au natural on treating your arrhythmia. but if acupuncture doesn’t work for you, have you concidered trying beta blockers? They worked miracles for me in leveling out my heart rate and beats, and now I have a nice, even 75 bpm heart rate. At one point I was on enough beta blockers to drop a horse in its tracks (back when my heart rate was 150 bpm and wildly irregular), but now I just take a pill at bedtime (until we determine that my thyroid levels have gone back to normal) and I’m fine all the next day. It’s a nice feeling. It makes me wonder how many other H2G2 researchers have this condition. surely we’re not the only ones!

Thanks for your reply and glad you’re more on balance now. The emotional swings are awful. I didn’t have rages, but I did get awfully emotional and cry a lot, and I was afraid of everything all the time (I may have been too afraid of the consequences of having a rage, to have one!!!). I was also physically very weak your article said Graves disease is not debilitating, but I found it was. I do Aikido, and I was getting less fit, not more fit. My thigh muscles got weaker and weaker. Now I am rather overweight as a result of the thyroidectomy, but am gradually getting back into regular Aikido classes. The acupuncture seems to be working, though you have to be patient. I’ve been having it once a week since January (a bit expensive, but it is important). I did have beta blockers when I was first diagnosed, and they did calm me down, but I don’t like them. My Chinese doctor gave me some herbs for my heart last week, and they have also helped, though they made me sleep rather heavily. He said they also make you calm maybe they are like a herbal beta blocker. I’m sure we are not the only ones on h2g2 with Graves, or any other thyroid problem. Maybe if they get to notice us, yours won’t be one of the most neglected postings! Actually, I found your posting because I noticed it on the most neglected list and it’s not there now! Keep well and balanced.

The article was very informative. Like others, I thought my anxiety was just part of the crazy, hectic world we’re a part of. I ignored the "heart’s exploding in my chest" feeling. You know, chalk it up to stress. I’ve been on/off Tapazole since 2/01. I’m still dealing with severe muscle weakness and I had periods where my thigh, abdominal and arm muscles would shake uncontrollable. When I was really sick, this would last for hours and my family thought I was possessed by the devil and could use a good exorcism. Now, the temors only a last few minutes and only come on when tired, stress or overworked. Surprisingly, that is not every day. Wondering if anyone else out there [عزيزي الزائر يتوجب عليك التسجيل لمشاهدة الرابط للتسجيل اضغط هنا] with Grave’s has experienced these types of muscle tremors and rigidity.

I’ve been diagnosed with, and treated for Grave’s Disease over the past 6 months. I’d probably been suffering with it for months before and completely failed to notice the symptoms. Yeah, I know: heart rate at 120bpm, sweating like mad, trembling hands, mood swings (interestingly only while at work but I really hate my job so that’s normal, isn’t it?) and eyes like a startled woodland animal. I’m having regular blood tests and check ups with my consultant and am currently on 40mgs Carbimazole and 75 micrograms thyroxine daily and it’s all going really well. But I was wondering if anyone could suggest any dietary measures that they’ve found helpful. My osteopath suggeted raw tofu. Just NO!, OK. I was thinking more broccoli. That sort of thing. Also, I’m definitely selling up and going travelling this year (a decision long overdue, and one for which I reckon all that extra thyroid energy can be thanked) so any tips for longer term, holistic (and inexpensive) measuers would be helpful. I’m working with my doctor on this, obviously, and won’t be giving up the meds; I just don’t fancy communicating my medical history in Laotian much. Anyone with any top tips/experience, I’d love to know. Remember kids, love your thyroid!

I just wanted to add a few words on top of those of my fellow sufferers of Grave’s Disease, who have already encapsulated the horrors, downers, weight swings, depression, anxiety, shakes/tremours, mood swings etc., etc., they have already summed (very admirably) up everything about having the condition of Grave’s Disease. I have just had RAI today, and I hope that it will be the answer to all my prayers! I have spent a lot of time now looking at all the various sites about RAI and Grave’s, and you know what scares me most is that we still seem to be completely unaware as to what causes this problem. When I was first diagnosed I was told there were 3 possibilities: Pregnancy; Overuse of steriods; and Menopause. Non were applicable. But no one bothered to look any further. Once stabilised 2 or so years ago my consultant then asked if I had any trauma in my life at the times my symptoms started. The fact my Father had died suggested to them a reason why I suddenly triggered excessive hormone action. I was given a 50:50 chance of recurrence. One and a half years later I was back in the same boat. This time with no deaths in my family. So why did it happen?? They never bothered to ask. It just recurred and so I had to have treatment. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not knocking the treatment I received, within 6 months they stabilised my thyroid sufficently for me to have RAI. But the question remains what caused the trigger to start my hyperthyroidism again???? And is any one really bothered? I have read a lot of the American articles on the subject and it seems to me that we seriously lag behind them in acknowledging the potential side effects of Grave’s Disease alone, never mind the effects of RAI. I think I was asked once if I had double vision. No one ever asked me if I thought I experienced a change in my eyesight. Yet, from what I read there can be a considerable effect on vision through Grave’s disease which is exaggerated by smoking! Did any one ever ask you if you smoked and noticed a change in your vision?? And then there is the immediate effect of cancer. Apparently within the first few months there is a higher risk of developing thyroid cancer having had RAI!! Did any one ever mention that??? I know I wasn’t told. The effect diminishes over 10 years, . I guess that’s good news. After today I have to say I now know that this affliction isn’t just a cross to bear by women. There were two men in front of me awaiting treatment and they both received a higher dosage than myself. I believe there are so many questions that remained unanswered. It at first seems so wonderful to get a "Quick Fix" for the problems we have endured for a number of months. But!? At what price? And at the end of the day does the problem just come down to what we have been eating for a number of years??? There is an article that referred to babies with Soy in their compound that developed thyroid problems. The minute Soy was taken away they reverted back to normal within a couple of months!!! Ok, I know I’ve said a lot that most people may not agree with. Let me know. My final question is this: Where is the Grave’s Disease Support Group??? Everyone else has one now??? If you are interested in either forming, supporting, getting more information, helping, etc., etc., contact me on [email protected] I look forward to all your comments and suggestions Good health to you all

Hello there, I just want to say that the article and your response has inspired to keep fighting!! For years i have been fighting a whole host of different symptoms and until recently were disgared by many. A recent major relapse called for further investigation by my doctor. They have determined that i am suffering from stress and have prescribed me anti depressants. I have had most of the symptoms like hair loss, weak muscles, irritated eyes, exhaustion, funny vision and the likes, which have in turn caused me so suffer from panic attacks. I have had my thyroid checked by the doctors many times and it keeps coming back as "normal" but after reading these articles and going with my gut feeling i do not think i have anxiety depression? Do you know if there is another blood test i should be asking for? Or if there is any way the test could miss the diagnosis of Graves’ Disease? I would really appreicate any response that may [عزيزي الزائر يتوجب عليك التسجيل لمشاهدة الرابط للتسجيل اضغط هنا] give me some hope as to a correct diagnosis. Thank you

I have started a new conversation titled ‘complementary treatments’, based on my own experiences of thyroid toxosis and Graves’ disease, if you are interested. I had missed this article when it came out (despite my relevant medical history) and only found this accidentally. I hope that it gives someone some useful information, or maybe just provides support or other options. My view (backed up by my own and others direct experiences) is that there are options out there; the conventional medical profession does not know it all or have all of the answers/treatments. If you are open enough to follow the complementary treatments, have faith and try it out (with careful supervision, of course). The ‘natural’ treatments are not as powerful, so they will take longer, but should not have the side effects that are associated with ‘conventional’ medicine.

I have been sufferering with Graves disease for probably over 20 years although with all my childhood illnesses could have been longer. Doctors have refused to treat me because my results were never conclusive with just a slight T4 abnormality. I was bedridden for years but when my heart rate went up to 130 in 1998 was then given beta blockers. with the help of alternative medicine which I found for myself I have existed but not had a life. I now believe both my children are showing the signs of this illness. Last year was particularly bad for me and although I had always digestive problems with this illness, started to loose weight and not absorb any food. I started on a downward spiral. Over December and January I was admitted to hospital for tests and an abnormal reading of my pancreas was also showing. After tests and scans still no answer was forth coming and I started to believe that the consultants thought I was a hyperchondriac although they had no answer for my continual loss of weight. At the beginning of February I felt suicidal there just didnt seem to be anyone who could help me. As usual when I feel desperate I search on the internet and I think this particular day although I am not religious, feel someone must have been helping me. I came across a company selling herbs to recover the thyroid back to full health, which I was obviousley sceptical about but in desperation I ordered these herbs. Within a week they arrived and I have been taking them ever since which is 8 months. They have changed my life not over night but gradually. Most important my digestive system is practically normal and I have gained all the weight that I have lost. My daughter has also started them and I am seeing huge changes in her she is getting back to her old self. These herbs are for anyone with thyroid disorder whether its hyper or hypo. You can also take them if you are also on existing pre******ion medicine, which you will gradually be able to wean off as the herbs improve your health. I will probably have to take these herbs for another 8 months to completely clear out my thyroid and then hopefully just a nominal dose to stop it from returning. If you would like me to do further postings on my progress I will be quite happy to do so.

It is called Thyroid Thru, I dont know whether I am allowed to tell you what the company is called but if you search Thyroid Thru it will sure to come up. They have a huge informative website

Is beats Audio really better

If you thought we had a tough time explaining how beats Audio works, it’s even tougher for us to say whether or not beats Audio really produces superior sound. Part of the problem is that people have different opinions about what sounds good. Some people hate distortion for example, while others actually like it evidenced by the popularity of the Kinks’ 1964 hit "You Really Got Me," for which guitarist Dave Davies mutilated the speaker cone on his amp with knitting needles [source: Buskin].

The tech Web site Endgadget, which in 2024 hired [عزيزي الزائر يتوجب عليك التسجيل لمشاهدة الرابط للتسجيل اضغط هنا] [عزيزي الزائر يتوجب عليك التسجيل لمشاهدة الرابط للتسجيل اضغط هنا] an independent lab to subject an HTC phone equipped with beats Audio to extensive tests, came up with some intriguing findings. Contrary to its advertising, reviewer Sharif Sakr wrote, beats Audio doesn’t actually make music that’s more faithful to what the musicians played in the studio. "For this to be true, the beats Audio EQ would need [عزيزي الزائر يتوجب عليك التسجيل لمشاهدة الرابط للتسجيل اضغط هنا] to flatten the system’s output, to make music sound more faithful to the source recording just as studio monitors do," he wrote. Instead, what the technology does is reproduce music the way that Dr. Dre likes it to sound. Now, that’s not necessarily a bad thing. It tweaks music to emphasize the bass and vocals, while depressing the "less interesting" middle frequencies. If [عزيزي الزائر يتوجب عليك التسجيل لمشاهدة الرابط للتسجيل اضغط هنا] day you like hip hop, reviewer Sharif Sakr concluded, beats Audio makes it sound great. For orchestral music, in contrast, "activating beats Audio does nothing good," he added [عزيزي الزائر يتوجب عليك التسجيل لمشاهدة الرابط للتسجيل اضغط هنا] [source: Sakr].

But since most people who buy equipment with beats Audio are more concerned about Wiz Khalifa than Yo Yo Ma, that probably doesn’t matter. The Monster beats by Dr. Dre headphones, released in 2024, garnered a positive review from the techie Web site CNET, which praised the sleek look of the headphones and also was impressed from a listening standpoint. The headphones had "an exceptionally one might say shockingly crisp" sound that was "balanced in the mids and truly impressive in their delivery of high end detail" without the muddiness sometimes found in the bass heavy microphones favored by hip hop fans, it reported [source: CNET].

Iv recently listened to my heart beat and noticed it is missing a beat or 2 then 2 or 3 come all at once in quick succession. It is always like this when I’m relaxed and when iv run up [عزيزي الزائر يتوجب عليك التسجيل لمشاهدة الرابط للتسجيل اضغط هنا] and down the stairs a few times. There also isn’t a regular amount if beats before it misses any.

Also in the past iv had really sharp chest pains that last for about 30 seconds or so. This has only happened 3 or 4 times and the last one was [عزيزي الزائر يتوجب عليك التسجيل لمشاهدة الرابط للتسجيل اضغط هنا] about 2 3 months ago

Do I have anything to worry about as my heart isn’t regular like most people but it does have it’s own little thing going on and I don’t notice the irregularity of the beats only when my partner puts his ear [عزيزي الزائر يتوجب عليك التسجيل لمشاهدة الرابط للتسجيل اضغط هنا] to my chest or I feel a pulse.

Oh I’m 26 female and don’t do much excersise.

It [عزيزي الزائر يتوجب عليك التسجيل لمشاهدة الرابط للتسجيل اضغط هنا] the music streaming service, not the headphones.

Beats has been more than a headphone company since [عزيزي الزائر يتوجب عليك التسجيل لمشاهدة الرابط للتسجيل اضغط هنا] they launched their pretty top notch music streaming product, beats Music, earlier this year. Apple aquisition is more than likely for the streaming service and all the assetts, people, and indexing associated with it. It a great services that uses musicians, audiophiles, and recording industry vets to index the music instead [عزيزي الزائر يتوجب عليك التسجيل لمشاهدة الرابط للتسجيل اضغط هنا] of algorithms. I found it better for music discovery than Spotify, Play Music, or Slacker (never tried Rdio.) [عزيزي الزائر يتوجب عليك التسجيل لمشاهدة الرابط للتسجيل اضغط هنا] Apple headphones shouldn turn red next year. Apple clearly has [عزيزي الزائر يتوجب عليك التسجيل لمشاهدة الرابط للتسجيل اضغط هنا] lost confidence in their iTunes team after the poorly received iTunes Radio. beats gives them an instant fix.

Also the more I think about it the hardware could be useful. blood pressure.

Beats has 67% market share mostly amongst younger people.

They give the technology to beats who adds it as an iPhone only feature.

Overnight there would be a jump in people buying iPhones.

Beats are pervasive too, like the iPhone. I almost suggest that the two companies share a similar, but not congruent, product philosophy. Both combine great product design with a solid, accessible user experience that a good fit for most people. Not everyone is going to search for hours to find the right pair of Sennhisers when their friends have [عزيزي الزائر يتوجب عليك التسجيل لمشاهدة الرابط للتسجيل اضغط هنا] beats and those will be adequate for their listening habits of Pop, alternative Rock and Top 40.

fundamental frequency

Two strings which are fixed at both ends are identical except [عزيزي الزائر يتوجب عليك التسجيل لمشاهدة الرابط للتسجيل اضغط هنا] that one is 0.65 cm longer than the other. Waves on both of these string propagate with a speed of 34.9 m/sec and the fundamental frequency of the shorter string is 220 Hz.For this, I did 34.9 / 220 to get the length of the string, which was 0.158636m. Then I added 0.065m to it to get 0.2236m. Then I did, 34.9 / 0.2236 to get the new [عزيزي الزائر يتوجب عليك التسجيل لمشاهدة الرابط للتسجيل اضغط هنا] frequency which is 156.0569 Hz, but thats not right. It makes sense since the new frequency should be greater. What am I doing wrong?c) What is the beat frequency if the length difference is now 0.8 cm?First of all, the length of the string should be speed/[2frequency]. So you should do 34.9/440 to get the length of the short string. The rest of your procedure is [عزيزي الزائر يتوجب عليك التسجيل لمشاهدة الرابط للتسجيل اضغط هنا] correct (except for that factor of 2). The new frequency (the one [عزيزي الزائر يتوجب عليك التسجيل لمشاهدة الرابط للتسجيل اضغط هنا] for the longer string) SHOULD be SMALLER, not larger. So (qualitatively) your result makes sense. All you need to do now is calculate the beat frequency with the correct numbers.

Movies that inspire me

There are some Bollywood movies that I feel proud of. Movies that make me think and feel hopeful that finally the status of women in this country is improving. I have always believed that the theatres and movies that a society produces is only a reflection of the society itself. I am so glad that women centric movies are becoming box office hits and lead female actors are being recognized for their amazing work.

These are the movies that do not make the woman some**** daughter, wife or sister. She is herself, she has her own identity. She struggles, fights, fails and eventually wins. She doesn need a man to rescue herself. She deals with her problems her own way head on.

Some of the movies have made a mark in my heart and no matter how many times I watch them I never get bored of them. There is always something new and different to learn from these movies. Following is the list of the movies that I love from the core of my heart.

Movie based on a true incident of famous Jessica murder [عزيزي الزائر يتوجب عليك التسجيل لمشاهدة الرابط للتسجيل اضغط هنا] case in Delhi. A female bartender Jessica is shot in middle of a party with over 300 people and still the killers (sons of Delhi big shots) are not proven guilty. Jessica sister struggles for years to get justice for his sister, but all in vain. Then enters a female journalist, who makes it possible for Jessica to receive justice by few sting operations and boom killers are found guilty of the crime!

What I loved about this movie is the character of the journalist played by Rani. An ambitious, smart, intelligent girl who calls herself a bitch; she is sensitive, straight forward and hell of a fighter woman. All she is concerned about is her work of journalism for the betterment of society. She drinks, parties, has casual *** and is not a bit worried about what people think of her.

One dialogue that I will always remember from this movie choo kar ***a hai, kal rape karke jayega, tu ladna seekh This dialogue comes from Jessica who beats up an eve teaser who touches her sister on her chest. How many times girls like me have been victims to such eve teasing? This dialogue is a reminder to every girl to not tolerate but stand up and fight.

A becomes a overnight, just by revealing her ***uality and doing so called hot ***ual scenes in movies. An actress named Silk who takes on the world overnight in a society where *** is a taboo subject. People go and watch the hot scenes in her movies, but do not respect her. She is looked upon like a *** object by every man. But she hardly cares for it because she gets obsessed by her growing popularity and fame.

Eventually she ends up committing suicide because she realizes [عزيزي الزائر يتوجب عليك التسجيل لمشاهدة الرابط للتسجيل اضغط هنا] that a woman like her can never expect to be respected. She can never hope to be some**** wife or daughter in law. This society only needs her for entertainment and she can easily [عزيزي الزائر يتوجب عليك التسجيل لمشاهدة الرابط للتسجيل اضغط هنا] be replaced by another hot girl ready to reveal her ***uality.

Silk is very strong character played by Vidya. Not only is she ambitious but also knows her strengths clearly and understands how to use them to her advantage. She breaks the rule of how Indian women should behave; she shatters the myth that women are supposed to be non ***ual beings.

One of my favorite dialogues of this movie jo tum kar rahi ho wo bagaawat hai, saalon baad log isse azadi kahenge. Bas aise hi rehna, aandhi ki tarah, zyada sochna mat, zyada sochogi to hawa ho jaogi. This dialogue comes from a journalist to Silk telling her to never think about how society perceives her but continue to do what she is doing. Isn that the reality? I can so relate to it, sometimes when I follow my heart completely, I tend to make an impression on people which isn always positive. Unless I let that perception capture me, I am a perfectly satisfied happy human being but as soon as I start to think about what people think of me, my self expression goes down the drain.

Another dialogue that I loved is tum paida nahi hoti to logon ko pata kaise chalta ki aurat tumhare jaisi bhi ho sakti hai This one comes from Emraan Hashmi telling Silk that if she didn exist, people would have never known that a woman could be like her also. So true!

Another blockbuster from Vidya Balan! A 7 month pregnant woman is ready to take on the world to find her husband. She is ready to deal with anything, un cooperative cops, strange and unknown city of Kolkata and dangerous killers. It is unimaginable to think that a pregnant woman can do anything adventurous like this, yet she does. Although ending of the movie is totally surprising and shocking, I don want reveal it for any**** who hasn watched this brilliant movie.

The protagonist of this movie is not only courageous and fearless; she also has an ability to take huge risks and an unimaginable determination. She is an inspiration for many women. I once heard my friend who was 5 months pregnant tell her husband can continue my travel work while in this situation when Vidya Balan can go to Kolkata to look for her husband in her 7th month of pregnancy. This is the kind of inspiration this movie has given us to take on the world no matter what the situation is.

A team of totally un cooperative, unprofessional and hopeless girls in a hockey team manage to bag the world cup out of no hope. In this country, women are not encouraged in sports. Yes, of course some icons from this country like Sania Nehwal, Sania Mirza and Mary Kom have made it to the top of their sports profession, but it is a long way to go for women to be successful sports persons.

Right from childhood a sister is asked to help the mother in kitchen while brother is playing cricket outside in the field. In many communities even today when girl starts menstruating, she is restricted to play particularly with boys. Some diamonds that would have shined brightly in Olympics never even recognize their talent. There is a need to encourage girls to play and play as hard as they can. There is a need to encourage them to be fit and strong instead of being just pretty and nice.

These girls totally out of hope and support are trained by their coach who makes it his personal mission to make this team a winner team. One scene in this movie really touched me the scene when the girls have to play against the boys team to get the sponsorship for participating in world [عزيزي الزائر يتوجب عليك التسجيل لمشاهدة الرابط للتسجيل اضغط هنا] cup, they are beaten up badly. But at the end of the match, the boys raise their hockey sticks in respect for the girls who give an unimaginable fight to them. The girls of course deserved it and that is what I learnt from it. To get your share of respect in this man world, you have fight against the men in a way that they respect you. Of course, this is better said than done.

A bare naked truth of Fashion industry is very well shown in this movie. A girl with an attitude comes to Mumbai to become a super model. Starting with a few bikini advertisements and lot of struggle, she manages to get a break in modelling. As she climbs the ladder of success at a speed of light, she loses what she once had peaceful relationships. She loses her boyfriend, her friends in light of her arrogance. Once a middle class girl now believes that she owns the world and that the whole world revolves around her.

Then a time comes when she is replaced by another new face in fashion industry, she starts to feel insecure but her fake arrogance makes her believe that she is undefeatable. Losing her success takes a toll on her, with no friends and no family to handle her during her down time, she starts to go crazy. In frenzy, she leaves the city to go back to her small town and her parents. After some time of psychiatric treatment, she decides to come back to the industry. She is launched again, this time by her real friends who support her, inspire her and help her get back to her feet.

This movie emphasizes one of my basic beliefs matter what you have achieved in life or what your talents are, if you are arrogant about it; it all goes down the drain Arrogance rips you off one most important thing meaningful relationships. And without people who care for you, you cannot be successful.

This is one of my all time favorites. Surprisingly, this movie did not do very well in box office and it is not a well known movie. But I could relate to this movie in multiple angles even though I haven turned 30 yet.

An ambitious and independent girl is dumped by her boyfriend for young hot looking girl just a week before she is turning 30. To add to her problems, she is not given the credit that she deserved at work and is also fired due to some serious politics. She is jobless, without a boyfriend and all she has are her two girlfriends who are dealing with their own problems in relationships. All this while she is also turning 30! She gets into a rebound with another man in a hope that her ex fiancee will come back to her. She gets desperate and out of the worst of her times, she regains hope and she re discovers herself and comes out a clear winner.

I can relate to her work politics so well in this movie. Even though, it is a bit exaggerated but they have shown the reality when a bunch of men competing against each other see a woman as a competition, they all unite to get the woman down first and once she is out, they continue to compete. This comes from my personal experience as well as what I have heard from other female friends [عزيزي الزائر يتوجب عليك التسجيل لمشاهدة الرابط للتسجيل اضغط هنا] of mine. Of course, every**** story doesn end in a win like in this movie, but my belief in me always gets strengthened whenever I watch this movie.

I relate to this character a lot. I haven been through a serious break up, but I have been through very difficult times in my relationships. I know how it is to feel so desperate to get some**** attention and how one loses all the confidence and self respect when a relationship doesn work. But just like in this movie, in the times so tough she discovers her true strengths and her value in her own eyes. She comes to terms with herself and with her life.

This movie too isn very well known but is a must watch. Two very different aspects of a women life is depicted beautifully in this movie. One woman Meera, who [عزيزي الزائر يتوجب عليك التسجيل لمشاهدة الرابط للتسجيل اضغط هنا] is a widow in the harsh world of Rajasthan with no freedom; a place where girls do not have a right to live! Another woman Zeenat from Srinagar who has learnt to be independent and ambitious! Fate gets these two girls together to become friends because of their husbands. Zeenat has to come to Rajasthan to meet Meera whose husband was killed accidently by her own husband. She comes all the way Rajasthan with nothing but a picture of the Meera husband.

Not only is Zeenat courageous but she is also strong willed, doesn give up till the end no matter what circumstances life throws at her. And Meera who has learnt to compromise with her life, who doesn have any freedom and who knows that she is being sold off to another man by her in laws finally discovers her freedom and her calling in life by her very dear friend. She learns that life is truly your own when it is lived at your terms and not at the terms of the society.

I can never get enough of this movie, no matter how many times I watch it. Story of two friends who are ready to do anything, practically anything for each other! One of them is a housewife who loves to give all her time to her family, but suffers a miscarriage only to know that her uterus is not strong enough to hold the baby for full term. Her whole life shatters in front of her because all she wants is to have a family with lots of kids. Her name is Reva

While her best friend Sia, isn ready to get married till she achieves a certain success in her photography career. But when she knows what Reva is going through, they take a decision to let Sia be a surrogate mother to Reva and her husband baby. And this decision is easy to take but it takes a toll on the friendship of these two girls. Sia goes through even more because of the turmoil this decision takes on her relationship with her boyfriend who has been proposing to her since years.

I love the complication of the relationship shown so wonderfully. Four people who only mean well for each other make their relationships way stronger after going through this complication.

This movie is one of latest hits of Bollywood and it deserves a round of applause because it is extremely well done. A girl completely dependent on the males in her life is rejected by her fianc just a couple of days before marriage. She has never gone anywhere outside her own city without being accompanied by her father or brother. She is completely ignorant to the life that is outside her own safe circle.
