Jared Leto on living in the South: ‘We escaped early on… it’s very oppressive’

Jared Leto on living in the South: ‘We escaped early on… it’s very oppressive’

Jared Leto is once again proving how friggin’ cool he is. In the new issue of FourTwoNine magazine, the Dallas Buyers Club Oscarwinner says he doesn’t mind if you called him “queer.”
When the mag’s editor-in-chief Kevin Sessums mentions that some of his “straight friends have begun to define themselves as queer without it being a sexual term but a cultural one,” he goes on to ask Leto and his brother Shannon Leto if they’d be “averse” to having the same label.

“I wouldn’t care,” Shannon said. Jared added, “I don’t think we’d care at all. We certainly identify with people who are different.”
That differentness is one of the reasons the Leto brothers’ band, 30 Seconds to Mars, has attracted such a large LGBT fan ****.
“I got a note from a kid yesterday,” Jared said. “We were signing a thousand CDs after a show. If you looked at him, he looked like any young kid maybe in twelfth grade or eleventh grade who’d be on the ****ball team or something. A nice looking kid. He handed me a note and it said, ‘I just want to say thanks so much for the music. it’s helped me in many ways–especially with coming out this year to my family.’”
And to think the Letos were born in the not-always LGBT-friendly south.

“We escaped early on,” Jared said. “It’s very oppressive.” He further explained, “We would go back for the summers and stay with our grandmother, though. So the culture was always there that we returned to. We moved around every couple of years growing up. Way up to north Massachusetts. Everywhere. But no matter where we were it was a very creative environment around artists. That is obviously an important reason that Shannon and I are pursuing the path that we are now.”

The Chicago Police Department Has Its Very Own CIA-Style "Black Site"

The Chicago Police Department Has Its Very Own CIA-Style "Black Site"

In an investigation published Tuesday, the Guardian‘s Spencer Ackerman reports on the existence of a warehouse in Chicago called Homan Square, where Police take suspects to keep them out of official databases, deny them legal counsel, and beat them.

No**** taken to Homan Square is booked, Ackerman reports. "It’s sort of an open secret among attorneys that regularly make Police station visits, this place—if you can’t find a client in the system, odds are they’re there," said Julia Bartmes, a Chicago laywer. Reportedly, lawyers who come to Homan Square looking for their clients are often turned away.

"They just disappear," criminal defense attorney Anthony Hill said, "until they show up at a district for charging or are just released back out on the street." Homan Square is "a place of interrogation off the books," Hill said.

When societies allow places like Guantánamo Bay or Abu Ghraib to exist, the practices that flourish there end up being reproduced elsewhere, theorizescriminologist Tracy Siska, executive director of the Chicago Justice Project, told Ackerman: "They creep into domestic law enforcement, either with weaponry like with the militarization of police, or interrogation practices. That’s how we ended up with a black site in Chicago."

Siska put what Ackerman found in further con**** in a Q&A with the Atlantic. "99 percent of the people from this site are involved in some form of street crime: gang activities, drugs—urban violent crime," he said. "That’s what makes the site even worse. It takes Guantanamo-style tactics on urban street criminals and shreds the Bill of Rights."

Madonna: ‘We still live in a very sexist society that wants to limit people’

خليجية

On longevity in her career: “Popularity comes and goes. You need to know who you are, what you stand for, and why you’re here.”

On sexuality and ageism:
“Don’t be fooled, not much has changed – certainly not for women. We still live in a very sexist society that wants to limit people. Since I started, I’ve had people giving me a hard time because they didn’t think you could be sexual or have sexuality or sensuality in your work and be intelligent at the same time. For me, the fight has never ended.”

On collaborating with Kanye West on her album Rebel Heart:
“It’s a little bit of a bullfight, but we take turns. He knows that he’s walking into a room with a person with a strong point of view, and I do too. I listen to what he has to say, take it in, and he listens to what I say and takes it in. We didn’t agree on everything, but he has good ideas.”

On internet haters:
“You can hide behind your computer or your phone and say whatever you want – you’re not known. Could you say it to my face? Would you say it to my face? I doubt it.”

Giorgio Armani on Madonna’s fall: ‘Madonna, as we all know, is very difficult’

It was the fashion fail of the week, but don’t blame the designer. Giorgio Armani says the bull fighter’s cape that brought down Madonna during a live performance at Brit Awards was meant to be closed with an easy-to-undo hook. She wanted it tied instead.

“Madonna, as we all know, is very difficult,” Armani said with a smile and a shrug backstage after his Emporio Armani show. “That’s all there was to it.”
Madonna was yanked backward down some steps after failing to untie the flowing cape. Madonna said the cape had been tied too tightly at the neck, and two dancers who were supposed to merely pull it off wound up dragging the singer down three steps. The singer told Britain’s “Jonathan Ross Show” that she hit her head and suffered whiplash

derby the dog was born with a congenital disease that caused a malformation in his front paws, shaping them more like flippers than feet. unable to get around the house, nevermind interact with other canines or run around the park, derby required a solution that would aid in his overall mobility.
animal-lover tara anderson volunteered to foster derby through hillsborough-based peace & paws, decidedly intent on using her own knowledge of technology and 3D printing to help derby move regularly for the First time.

Megan Fox: ‘Most people assume that I’m not very smart or educated’

Megan Fox: ‘Most people assume that I’m not very smart or educated’

خليجية

The criticisms people have of her: “I would say most people assume that I’m not very smart or educated or earnest, because I have this image that I’m sort of narcissistic, chasing attention, and wanting people to like me. It makes me laugh because I’ve done plenty of interviews and when you read the article from beginning to end you can see that I’m not your typical music video model. My life is not about seeking other people’s approval because I know it isn’t going to come.”

Getting kicked off the Transformers franchise: “I think there’s a lot of growing personally that I needed to do, to control my passion. I really wanted to be a mom, and I wasn’t yet, and I really struggled with that. I was just too young to see where I wanted to go.”

The criticism of her acting abilities:
“In Transformers I was a kid. I had no idea what I was doing. There was nothing for me to do, but then I did nothing and that was my own call. I don’t take it personally because in some ways I acknowledge and agree. But at the same time, both established comedians and Quentin Tarantino have come up to me and said, ‘I really liked Jennifer’s ****. You were really good in that’. The people whose opinions matter liked it, so I’m OK with that.”

She’s not your mannequin:
“I’ve never had fun getting dressed up and going on the red carpet because there’s pressure there. You’re not just getting dressed because you think this is an amazing outfit. You’re getting dressed because there’s an obligation from your side to a certain designer and then you have to go and walk the carpet hoping that someone else isn’t wearing something similar. I’m just sort of the mannequin that they send out, so it’s just not a fun process for me.”

She’s not planning out her career:
“I don’t sit back and have a game plan and make decisions about my career like other actors do. I have no ego tied up into my career at all. If I get pitched into a movie I do it and that’s that; it doesn’t matter if it’s weird or small or huge. I trust my intuition.”

Motherhood:
“I don’t think I need to teach my children with harsh words or with punishment. I believe that if I love them the right way, there’s no need for that. I’m a free-spirit mother. I don’t talk to Bodhi like he’s an adult, obviously, but I listen to everything he says to me and I believe in him: I believe that he sees things I don’t see, I believe he has things to teach me, and so I don’t act as a disciplinarian or an authority figure per se. I don’t ever want to be a restrictive force on him; I want to be an expansive force…I want him to be inspired by me because he constantly inspires me as well. Motherhood has really deepened me and has given me so much perspective. I’m very dedicated.”
