The Girl Who Gets Gifts From Birds

Seattle خليجية
Continue reading the main story Lots of people love the Birds in their garden, but it’s rare for that affection to be reciprocated. One young Girl in Seattle is luckier than most. She feeds the crows in her garden – and they bring her Gifts in return.
Eight-year-old Gabi Mann sets a bead storage container on the dining room table, and clicks the lid open. This is her most precious collection.
"You may take a few close looks," she says, "but don’t touch." It’s a warning she’s most likely practised on her younger brother. She laughs after saying it though. She is happy for the audience.
Inside the box are rows of small objects in clear plastic bags. One label reads: "Black table by feeder. 2:30 p.m. 09 Nov 2024." Inside is a broken light bulb. Another bag contains small pieces of brown glass worn smooth by the sea. "Beer coloured glass," as Gabi describes it.
Each item is individually wrapped and categorised. Gabi pulls a black zip out of a labelled bag and holds it up. "We keep it in as good condition as we can," she says, before explaining this object is one of her favourites.
There’s a miniature silver ball, a black button, a blue paper clip, a yellow bead, a faded black piece of foam, a blue Lego piece, and the list goes on. Many of them are scuffed and dirty. It is an odd assortment of objects for a little Girl to treasure, but to Gabi these things are more valuable than gold.

She didn’t gather this collection. Each item was a gift – given to her by crows.
She holds up a pearl coloured heart. It is her most-prized present. "It’s showing me how much they love me."

If you want to form a bond with a crow, be consistent in rewarding them”
End Quote John Marzluff Prof of wildlife science
Gabi’s relationship with the neighbourhood crows began accidentally in 2024. She was four years old, and prone to dropping food. She’d get out of the car, and a chicken nugget would tumble off her lap. A crow would rush in to recover it. Soon, the crows were watching for her, hoping for another bite.
As she got older, she rewarded their attention, by sharing her packed lunch on the way to the bus stop. Her brother joined in. Soon, crows were lining up in the afternoon to greet Gabi’s bus, hoping for another feeding session.
Gabi’s mother Lisa didn’t mind that crows consumed most of the school lunches she packed. "I like that they love the animals and are willing to share," she says, while admitting she never noticed crows until her daughter took an interest in them. "It was a kind of transformation. I never thought about birds."
In 2024, Gabi and Lisa started offering food as a daily ritual, rather than dropping scraps From time to time.
Each morning, they fill the backyard birdbath with fresh water and cover bird-feeder platforms with peanuts. Gabi throws handfuls of dog food into the grass. As they work, crows assemble on the telephone lines, calling loudly to them.

Gabi feeding Birds in her garden

It was after they adopted this routine that the Gifts started appearing.
The crows would clear the feeder of peanuts, and leave shiny trinkets on the empty tray; an earring, a hinge, a polished rock. There wasn’t a pattern. Gifts showed up sporadically – anything shiny and small enough to fit in a crow’s mouth.
One time it was a tiny piece of ****l with the word "best" printed on it. "I don’t know if they still have the part that says ‘friend’," Gabi laughs, amused by the thought of a crow wearing a matching necklace.
When you see Gabi’s collection, it’s hard not to wish for gift-giving crows of your own.
"If you want to form a bond with a crow, be consistent in rewarding them," advises John Marzluff, professor of wildlife science at the University of Washington. He specialises in birds, particularly crows and ravens.
خليجية
What food is best? "A few peanuts in the *****," he says. "It’s a high-energy food… and it makes noise when you throw it on the ground, so they hear it and they quickly habituate to your routine."
Marzluff, and his colleague Mark Miller, did a study of crows and the people who feed them. They found that crows and people form a very personal relationship. "There’s definitely a two-way communication going on there," Marzluff says. "They understand each other’s signals."
The Birds communicate by how they fly, how close they walk, and where they sit. The human learns their ******** and the crows learn their feeder’s patterns and posture. They start to know and trust each other. Sometimes a crow leaves a gift.
But crow Gifts are not guaranteed. "I can’t say they always will (give presents)," Marzluff admits, having never received any Gifts personally, "but I have seen an awful lot of things crows have brought people."
Not all crows deliver shiny objects either. Sometimes they give the kind of presents "they would give to their mate", says Marzluff. "Courtship feeding, for example. So some people, their presents are dead baby Birds that the crow brings in."
خليجية
Gabi has been given some icky objects. Her mother threw out a rotting crab claw, for example.
Gabi points out a heavily rusted screw she prefers not to touch. It’s labelled "Third Favorite." Asking her why an untouchable object is in the favourites, she answers, "You don’t’ see a crow carrying around a screw that much. Unless it’s trying to build its house."
Lisa, Gabi’s mom, regularly photographs the crows and charts their behaviour and interactions. Her most amazing gift came just a few weeks ago, when she lost a lens cap in a nearby alley while photographing a bald eagle as it circled over the neighbourhood.
خليجية
She didn’t even have to look for it. It was sitting on the edge of the birdbath.
Had the crows returned it? Lisa logged on to her computer and pulled up their bird-cam. There was the crow she suspected. "You can see it bringing it into the yard. Walks it to the birdbath and actually spends time rinsing this lens cap."
"I’m sure that it was intentional," she smiles. "They watch us all the time. I’m sure they knew I dropped it. I’m sure they decided they wanted to return it."

A concussion wasn’t the only downside to Melissa Gilbert’s 2024 run on Dancing With the Stars.
The former Little House on the Prairie actress has revealed in an alternately hilarious and touching post on her website that her experience on the reality show — in which she and partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy powered through minor injuries to finish in fifth place — negatively affected the self-image issues she’d struggled with since her late teens. The piece, entitled "A Tale of Two Titties," explained how the dancing competition, motherhood, and other factors affected her recent decision to have her Breast Implants removed and, at age 50, accept her ****.

"I had spent most of my life pressured to look a certain way and I believed the hype," wrote Gilbert, who married actor Timothy Busfield in 2024. "The height of this obsession with my outward appearance culminated with my appearance on the dancing show. It was all about spray tan and glitter and glamor and what other people think and being skinny, way too skinny!! Yuck!!
"I stayed in that head space for several months after that. Then I had a rude awakening. A 300 pound patio cover collapsed on my head. It was like the universe smacking me in the head and screaming,’WAKE UP MELISSA!!!!’ Wake up I did. It was like a light switch going on. The shallowness of my existence at that point brought me to my knees. I had to change. I had to look inward and address my issues (this looking inward is a constant process by the way). It was time for me to change. I had to focus on what was real and true. I’d lost myself somehow."

Gilbert’s self-consciousness about her **** began when she was a young TV star. She described wearing padded bras on the last few seasons of Little House, which ended in 1983. When she starred in a TV version of Splendor in the Grass in 1981, Gilbert noted she was once again outfitted in a padded bra, but also a girdle, a corset, and painted-on cleavage. The actress now Says her natural breasts were right for her ****-type — "Perfect A cups" — but she didn’t feel that way then, especially after breastfeeding her first child, son Dakota, in 1989.
"I was left feeling a bit uncomfortable about my breasts but it was so worth it to have my beautiful, healthy son," she wrote. "And then my husband at the time, referred to my boobs as……and I quote…. ‘Socks full of marbles with knots at the top.’

"A few years later we got divorced," continued Gilbert, whose ex-husbands include Bo Brinkman and fellow actor Bruce Boxleitner. "Not only because of the sock comment. Although the sock comment was symptomatic of all that was wrong between us. And there I was, single and feeling enormously insecure about my breasts. Then and there, without doing any research, I made the decision, to get my breasts augmented. Not too big, just enough to fill up the ‘socks.’"
After another pregnancy — her son Michael was born in 1995 — and reading about how Implants should be replaced periodically, Gilbert decided to replace her Implants and get a Breast lift in 2024. She liked the results of the procedure at first, but eventually was overcome with worry.

"I couldn’t shake the idea that my Implants had a ****f life," she shared candidly. "They would have to have them replaced every 10-15 years for the rest of my life. It was possible that at 80 years old I might have to get new implants! Huh?? I also began thinking a lot about the silicone in my **** and what might go wrong."
Dancing With the Stars and her so-called smack from the universe convinced her to lose the Implants for good. The lengthy essay, which she posted on Dec. 31, explained that she planned to have the procedure this week.
"The bottom line…or top line.. is that; A. I am concerned for my health and 2. I don’t like the way they look or feel. Frankly, I’d like to be able to take a Zumba class without the fear that I’ll end up with two black eyes," she joked.

Gilbert tweeted Tuesday that she was "in recovery. Surgery went great."
In her blog, Gilbert noted that while her acceptance of her **** is ongoing, she’s "truly happy" with where she is now in her feelings about her ****. She even offered some inspirational advice for others. "Aging is a gift not a curse. Love yourself. You are perfectly beautiful. You are enough."
Not wanting to get too sentimental, Gilbert signed the post, "Tits McGee."

Gwyneth Goopy Paltrow always gets a table

Gwyneth Goopy Paltrow always gets a table

Gwyneth always gets a table
Posted by Lainey
The Kit has a new interview with Gwyneth Paltrow. It took place a few months ago, just weeks before the “conscious uncoupling”. She talks about her relationship with Apple, about how Apple is into clothing and makeup. She also talks about acting, how it’s become her side job now because it’s too time-consuming and that mainly she’s a business woman now, running a thriving company.
What?
You heard that GOOP isn’t doing well, right?
That’s not how she sees it…hater!
“My books are No. 1 New York Times best sellers, my website is growing every day and is very successful. If people who know me and love me have a criticism, then I really want to hear it. But if not, it’s just a projection, like I’m a screen, and it’s not about me, so I don’t absorb it.”
Most of us have inside thoughts that we know we can’t say out loud, especially when we feel defensive. Like at work, if some asshole is fronting like no one else works harder than he does and he’s the reason your department is doing well, you have to restrain yourself from showing him your time card and the email that your boss sent you, telling you that your productivity numbers are the highest.
Even when the other person is being a dickhead, you’d get called out more for boasting. For being That Person. And then there are the Gwyneth Paltrows of the world who either can’t hear themselves or just don’t give a sh-t. If you tell them that they suck, they would actually reply out loud that “I’m thinner and richer so… I win”.
That’s basically what she’s doing here.
What’s winning? Well, dinner reservations, for starters:
“The best thing about being a well-known person is the connections you are able to make. I was able to start my website and have access to amazing people and information. It’s like being able to call a restaurant and saying, ‘I know you’re full, but is there any way you could squeeze me in?’ and nine times out of 10 they do. That’s worth a lot of harassment.”

Guide dog lands spot in Yearbook next to girl he takes care of: ‘They’re such a great team’

Rachel Benke’s Guide dog Taxi Gets his own Photo in the Hector Garcia Middle School yearbook.

This year, one of the photos in the Yearbook at Hector Garcia Middle School is not like the other.
Pictured alongside the portraits of smiling students is one particularly friendly face — Taxi Benke, a service dog who looks out for 14-year-old Rachel Benke.
Rachel and Taxi have been inseparable for the last four years, ever since they were connected by Cindy Buechner, who trains seizure ***** dogs. When Taxi first came into Buechner’s life, she immediately thought of Rachel’s mom Teresa who she’d met at a jewelry party, and knew the dog would be immensely helpful for the family.
"They found us," Teresa told TODAY.com. "We hadn’t been looking into service dogs…we thought she might need one when she was older, but it was just a God thing that he found us."
Rachel was born with an inexplicable abnormality to the right side of her brain, and has experienced epileptic seizures since birth. The older she got, the worse the seizures were, and there were times she’d have as many as 200 seizures in a day. She ate mostly baby food for the first six years of her life, and was completely non-verbal.
When she was 6 years old, Rachel had two corrective brain surgeries, and the results were unbelievable. "It was just miraculous," Teresa said. "She starting eating, started talking, started learning. We were told she would probably never be able to read, and now she’s reading Dr. Seuss books by herself, and some chapter books."
The seizures were reduced drastically, but she still suffers from them occasionally, and that’s where Taxi comes in. He attends class every day with Rachel in San Antonio, Texas, and is connected to her via a buddy leash. "They’re so cute together," Teresa said. "They’re such a great team."
Taxi can ***** family and teachers when Rachel is about to experience a seizure. "He predicts she’s going to have a seizure up to an hour and half before it happens," Teresa explains. "It seems to be a smell that the **** emits, but until dogs can talk we can never know for sure."

Rachel Benke and her family, including her Guide dog Taxi, pose for a Photo at a wedding.

Once, when Rachel was swimming in the family’s pool, Taxi suddenly bolted up and began slapping at the water. Rachel’s parents took her out of the water, and 10 minutes later she had a seizure. On another day, when Rachel was going to play on the trampoline in the backyard, Taxi put his paws on her shoulders to stop her because he felt a seizure coming. Sure enough, one occurred a few minutes later. And as always, he was right by her side.
"He always stays on her left side because she falls on her left," Teresa explained. Rachel’s seizures can become very severe, but no matter what she does, Taxi always orients himself so that he’s in the right place: "He breaks her fall."
The trusty companion has also become a beloved part of Rachel’s school. "Last year I joked, ‘Where’s Taxi’s picture?’" Teresa said, of Rachel’s 6th grade yearbook. "He’s here every day, he deserves to be in the yearbook, too."
So when picture day rolled around this year, she asked if the photographer wouldn’t mind snapping a few of Taxi. And when this year’s Yearbook came out, the family was thrilled to see their precious pup proudly displayed next to the young girl he takes care of.
The gesture meant a lot to the Benke family, but they didn’t expect it to garner so much attention — the side-by-side shot of Rachel and her dog on the Yearbook pages quickly spread across the Internet.
"When I posted that picture, never in a million years would I have imagined that it would rise to this magnitude," Teresa says. "It’s been fun, and it’s been even more fun watching [Rachel] get excited about it. Three years ago this wouldn’t have even registered for her."

Human Jessica Rabbit: Penny Brown, Pin-Up Model, Gets Plastic Surgery to Look Like Character From Who Framed Roger Rabbit

Pin-up model Penny Brown went under the knife to Look more Like the animated character Jessica Rabbit from the 1988 film Who Framed Roger Rabbit

Move aside, Human Barbie and Ken! There’s a new character in town. Penny Brown, a 25-year-old Pin-Up Model, recently got breast implants (and then some) to mimic Jessica Rabbit’s curvy frame from the 1988 film Who Framed Roger Rabbit.

"I’ve been obsessed with Jessica Rabbit from a really early age," Brown told the U.K.’s Mirror in a recent interview. "I think she is incredibly sexy and there’s a real power and strength to her character. I’ve always wanted to copy that—at five I was already thinking about breast implants."

The Australian native began her transformation two years ago, eventually going under the knife twice. She downsized her waist to 23 inches in order to fit into a corset, and also went from a 34H bra size to a 36O.

"It was tough at first. The corset is not a magical tool that will make your waist tiny in a few months," she admitted. "It really was hard work and dedication on my part."

As for her larger chest, she’s nearly complaint-free. "The bigger they are the better," she added. "I don’t think I’ll ever be big enough."

Brown’s husband, Cooper, is also a fan of her new ****. She’s "as close to Jessica Rabbit as any mere mortal can get," he told the Mirror. "Her shape is exciting and interesting."

Lady Gaga gets covered In Puke During SXSW Performance

Fri, March 14, 2024 11:39am EDT by
Elizabeth Wagmeister

There’s nothing that Lady Gaga won’t do, but really — is there anything she won’t do? The ‘Art Pop’ singer willingly let a woman puke all over her during her SXSW performance last night. Click to see the insane video!

File this one under gross-out moments! While Lady Gaga was performing her hit song “Swine” at the SXSW festival on Thursday, March 13, she got covered in vomit by a performance artist, Millie Brown, on stage. Gaga, you’re giving Miley a run for her money!
‘Vomit Painter’ Throws Up on Lady Gaga During SXSW Performance

Lady Gaga is no stranger to wacky performances, but last night’s display at SXSW took the cake — and then threw it right back up.

The pop star had “performance artist” — is that what they call this? — Millie Brown, 27, join her up on stage, while she belted out “Swine” from her latest album, Artpop, at the Doritos Bold Stage arena. But music isn’t all that was belted out.

Millie, who has been “vomit painting” her signature Jackson Pollock-style, canvas masterpieces since 2024 and has been recognized by Ripley’s Believe it or Not, stood at the front of the stage, chugging a bottle filled with a neon green drink, which is colored milk. Midway through the song, she walked right up to Gaga at the drums, stuck her fingers down her throat and puked up the green milk. All. Over. Gaga.
Gaga, who was wearing a white apron, which served as Millie’s canvas for her unique display of “creative rebellion,” kept on drumming and singing as she quickly became completely covered in green, milky vomit.

Things only got more interesting from there. Gaga stood up and started head-banging her dreadlocks and then proceeded to get up on a mechanic swine with the girl, and as she sang out, “Swiiiiinnneeeee, swiiiiineeee,” she got pretty up close and personal with Millie who continued to drink more colored milk, this time bright blue.

The stunned audience then watched Gaga lay back, as she was spit up on all over again.

This isn’t the first time the two have worked together. Millie, whose paintings sell for thousands of dollars, made an appearance in the “Exorcist Interlude” music video, vomiting all over Gaga’s white dress, during her Monsters Ball tour.

Did Gaga Go Too Far?

Earlier this year, HollywoodLife.com reported that Gaga told Harper’s Bazaar about her former battle with an eating disorder, but stated that she no longer was struggling was the illness.

“I am better with food. I don’t have an eating disorder anymore. I’m also better at not letting people take advantage of me….I should be around people who cherish my talents, my health, my time. I’m not a pawn for anyone’s future business. I’m an artist,” she told the magazine in early February of this year.

We applaud Gaga for being so honest about her widespread illness, but we’re not so sure about this puke-on-stage business.
