Jack Nicholson fears dying alone because women don’t trust him thanks to his reputation as a lothario

He once said he used to feel irresistible to women – and his impressive list of lovers suggests he had a point.
But Jack Nicholson admits he fears dying alone because he can no longer captivate the ladies like he did in younger years.
The 77-year-old says women do not trust him anymore thanks to his reputation as ‘Jack the Jumper’ – a reference to his well-known philandering.

In comments published by U.S. magazine Closer, he said he would love ‘one last romance’ but said he was ‘not very realistic’ about that happening.
He said he didn’t believe that relationships are ‘fixed things’ because humans are ‘necessarily complex and confused beings’.
He added: ‘We don’t always do the right thing, say the right thing and behave the way we always want to behave.’
Nicholson has made very similar remarks in an interview in 2024, suggesting that his outlook on the future has changed very little since then.
A source also told the magazine that Nicholson was ‘afraid of dying alone’ in his Los Angeles mansion.
Nicholson’s lovers have included actresses and models such as Michelle Phillips, Bebe Buell, Lara Flynn Boyle, Anjelica Huston and Rebecca Broussard.
He was married to Sandra Knight for six years between 1962 and 1968, a marriage she described as ‘very beautiful and sweet’.

But his affair with Addams Family actress Angelica Huston was far more volatile, with him repeatedly cheating on her.
It finally ended in 1989 after 16 years when when he announced over dinner that Broussard was going to have his baby.

In remarks published by Closer, Nicholson says he was ‘annihilated emotionally’, adding: ‘I’m childish and I did make a mistake’.
The magazine reports how Nicholson spends his time sleeping until 1pm, drinking milk to soothe his stomach, playing golf and going next door to the property that contains his art collection.
He bought the adjacent house, once owned by Marlon Brando in Mulholland Drive in Los Angeles, largely so that he didn’t have to cope with any neighbours.
A source said his family had been trying to get him to sell the properties to downsize to a ‘more manageable place in Beverly Hills’.

Charges of second-degree murder and first-degree child abuse resulting in the death laid against mother and uncle.

Maryland: The mother and uncle of a nine-year-old boy who died after he was handcuffed and beaten for eating birthday cake without permission have been charged with murder and child abuse in connection with his death, law enforcement authorities said.

The boy’s mother, Oriana Iris Garcia, 26, was charged on Monday with second-degree murder and first-degree child abuse resulting in the death of her son Jack Kirby Garcia.
The uncle, Jacob Andrew Barajas, 23, was also arrested and faces the same charges. They were both held on $US5 million ($6.7 million) bonds.

Police say Ms Garcia’s boyfriend, Robert Leroy Wilson, 30, beat the boy. He was charged last week with assault and child abuse and is being held in jail on a $US1 million bond.

According to police, the incident began on June 30 when Mr Barajas handcuffed Jack to a dining chair and Mr Wilson beat the boy.
Jack’s mother later told police she was at work at a retail store during the attack and had left her son in the care of the two men.

When Jack had difficulty breathing after the attack, an adult in the apartment called emergency services. Ms Garcia came home before the ambulance arrived, police said.

When emergency personnel arrived, she met paramedics outside and told them they weren’t needed, authorities said.
Her son, she told paramedics, was fine and he was just "congested". According to charging ********s, she declined to have her son checked by the first responders.

The paramedics left but were called back four hours later when the boy stopped breathing. Ms Garcia later told authorities that she "tried to give" the boy water and he "started gurgling when he would take a breath" so emergency services were called.

Jack was hospitalised at Children’s National Medical Centre in Washington and died of his injuries on July 5. A final autopsy report has not yet been completed.

Authorities said the boy’s mother later told police that Jack was injured when her boyfriend punched him in the stomach because he "stole again".
She told police that Jack stole birthday cake meant for her boyfriend’s baby. His own ninth birthday had been three days before.

They said she also told police that her boyfriend would hit Jack with a piece of hollow bamboo to punish him for lying and would slap him.

She said handcuffs had been placed on the boy "for a few hours at a time in the past" to show him "what’s going to happen in jail", authorities said.
She told them she was "trying to teach" her son not to steal.

According to police, she told them that Jack would "mostly get in trouble for stealing food". The uncle told police the trio punished the boy for allegedly stealing food by making him eat it until he was sick of it.

All three adults came up with these methods of disciplining the child together, the charging ********s said.
The ********s also said that Jack and his mother and uncle had moved into Mr Wilson’s Hagerstown, Maryland, apartment in March, but the child was never enrolled in school after moving there.

Police said in a press release that the boy’s mother and uncle were arrested on Monday – without incident – after detectives learned they were planning to go to the West Coast, where they are both from originally.

Joseph Michael, the deputy state’s attorney in Washington County, Maryland, said on Tuesday that the case "remains under investigation for further charges against all individuals involved".

Jack Ely, Who Sang the Kingsmen’s ‘Louie Louie’, Dies at 71

خليجية

Jack Ely would later insist that as a 19-year-old singing “Louie Louie” in one take in a Portland, Ore., studio in 1963, he had followed the original lyrics faithfully. But, he admitted, the braces on his teeth had just been tightened, and he was howling to be heard over the band, with his head tilted awkwardly at a 45-degree angle at a single microphone dangling from the ceiling to simulate a live concert.

Which may explain why what originated innocently as a lovesick sailor’s calypso lament to a bartender named Louie morphed into the incoherent, three-chord garage-band cult classic by the Kingsmen that sold millions of copies, spawned countless cover versions and variations, was banned in Indiana, prompted the F.B.I. to investigate whether the song was secretly obscene, provoked a legal battle and became what Frank Zappa called “an archetypal American musical icon.”

For Mr. Ely, the 2-minute-42-second demo recording turned out to be a one-hit wonder. He was bounced from the group, which he helped found in 1959, after the drummer, Lynn Easton, decided he wanted to be the lead singer instead.

Mr. Ely died on Tuesday at 71 at his home in Redmond, Ore. His son Sean said that Mr. Ely was a Christian Scientist and had not sought treatment, but that he believed the cause was skin cancer.

Jack Brown Ely was born in Portland on Sept. 11, 1943. His father, Ken, was a singer of such prominence, Dave Marsh wrote in “Louie Louie” (1993) — one of several books prompted by the song — that the crooner Rudy Vallee sent him a congratulatory telegram when his only son was born. Ken Ely died when Jack was 4.

He began taking piano lessons and gave his first recital before he was 7, then discovered the guitar when he was 13 and saw Elvis Presley on “The Ed Sullivan Show.”

After Lynn Easton’s mother enlisted Jack to perform at a local yacht club, joined by high school colleagues, the Kingsmen were born. They never practiced at Jack’s house (his stepfather hated the racket), but the band prospered even as they graduated and Jack enrolled at Portland State University.

In 1962, while playing at a club in Seaside, Ore., he noticed that the jukebox was spinning overtime with Rockin’ Robin Roberts and the Wailers’ 1961 version of “Louie Louie,” a song that Richard Berry, a Los Angeles musician, had written on a napkin and recorded in 1957.
Mr. Ely persuaded the Kingsmen and the band’s manager to record the song. They booked the Northwestern Inc. studio in Portland for an hour on April 6, 1963.

“It was more yelling than singing ’cause I was trying to be heard over all the instruments,” Mr. Ely recalled, according to Peter Blecha, a music historian, in his book “Sonic Boom! The History of Northwest Rock: From ‘Louie Louie’ to ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ ”
(2009). He also began the third verse a few bars too soon and paused while the band caught up.

In an interview with the Oregon newspaper The Bend Bulletin in 1987, Mr. Ely recalled: “I stood there and yelled while the whole band was playing, and when it was over, we hated it. We thought it was a totally non-quality recording.”

Paul Revere and the Raiders, another Portland band, recorded the song the same week. Arnie Ginsburg, a Boston disc jockey known as Woo-Woo, played the Kingsmen’s version twice and pronounced it the worst recording of the week. But it became a No. 2 hit nationally and stayed in the Top 40 for 13 weeks. In 2024, Rolling Stone magazine called it the No. 4 most influential recording of all time.

Ousted by Mr. Easton in August 1963, Mr. Ely tried and failed to rejoin the band after the song became a hit. He formed his own band, which he initially also called the Kingsmen, and recorded “Love That Louie,” prompting lawsuits that required Wand Records to credit him as lead vocalist on future “Louie Louie” pressings, granted him $6,000 in royalties and barred Mr. Easton from lip-syncing the song in television appearances, according to Mr. Marsh.

Mr. Ely was drafted into the Army, returned to the United States in 1968,trained horses, was active in Rockers Against Drugs and was an advocate of legislation that would grant royalties to recording artists and record labels as well as songwriters.
Sean Ely said his father’s other survivors were his third wife, Dawn; another son, Robert; and a daughter, Sierra.

High school and college students who thought they understood what Mr. Ely was singing traded tran******s of their meticulously researched translations of the lyrics. The F.B.I. began investigating after an Indiana parent wrote to Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy in 1964: “My daughter brought home a record of ‘LOUIE LOUIE’ and I, after reading that the record had been banned on the air because it was obscene, proceeded to try to decipher the jumble of words. The lyrics are so filthy that I cannot enclose them in this letter.”

The F.B.I. Laboratory’s efforts at decryption were less fruitful. After more than two years and a 455-page report, the bureau concluded that “three governmental agencies dropped their investigations because they were unable to determine what the lyrics of the song were, even after listening to the records at speeds ranging from 16 r.p.m. to 78 r.p.m.”

Mr. Berry’s words, with a first verse that begins, “Fine little girl she wait for me/Me catch the ship for ’cross the sea,” are in fact completely benign. Whatever obscenities people thought they heard, the Kingsmen’s version hewed closely to the original — lyrically if not musically.

Mr. Blecha said Mr. Ely had assured him he had not inserted “incorrect lyrics,” but Mr. Blecha was convinced that Mr. Easton had uttered a single four-letter obscenity in the background of the recording when he accidentally struck the rim of his drum.

Asked to account for the song’s popularity, Mr. Blecha replied, “You could dance to it, and as kids, with the rumors that there was something nefarious going on, you couldn’t grab our attention with anything better than that.”

Anjelica Huston’s on-again, off-again love affair with Jack Nicholson was turbulent, to say the least.
The actress chronicles her 17-year relationship with the Departed star in her new memoir Watch Me, out today.
Most notably, Huston speaks candidly of the moment she suggested that she and Nicholson tie the knot.
"I [said], ‘If you had any balls, you’d marry me,’" writes Huston. "And he said, ‘Marry you? Are you kidding?’"
The 63-year-old actress goes on to say that she "sobbed for three days after that."
Here are five over things we learned about the pair’s relationship from the tell-all:

1. Nicholson scared Huston

Huston recalls meeting a young Gwyneth Paltrow at a fundraiser for a senator. The then 12-year-old Paltrow took one look at Nicholson and told Huston, "That man scares me."
"He scares me, too," Huston answered.

2. She found his possessiveness attractive

After watching Nicholson flirt with a model at a restaurant, Huston tried to leave the table only to have the actor pull her back into her seat.
"Don’t ever stand up like that to leave," he reportedly said to her. "I enjoyed his brief flash of possessiveness," she writes.

3. He once bought her a Mercedes-Benz

Which Huston promptly crashed the day she got it. No word on whether he got her another one.

4. She beat him up when they finally broke up for good

"I don’t think I kicked him," she writes of that brutal final breakup, "but I beat him savagely about the head and shoulders. He was ducking and bending, and I was going at him like a prizefighter, raining a vast array of direct punches."
But he was impressed with her display of passion.
"Goddamn, Toots, you sure landed some blows on me. I’m bruised all over my ****," he reportedly told her on the phone days after the final confrontation.
Huston writes she replied: "You’re welcome, Jack, you deserved it."

5. She wanted to have Nicholson’s baby, but was not physically able

After actress Rebecca Broussard became pregnant with Nicholson’s baby, Huston felt "inadequate and bitter," she writes.
"I had endometriosis, and had probably had it since my teens. I had undergone a laparoscopy, followed by a hysteroscopy, but a child was not to be."
