Kristen Scott Thomas: aging actresses are ‘invisible & that’s never going to change’

Kristin Scott Thomas told Sophie Raworth that ageism in Hollywood was a “disaster”, and that female actors are still losing out on roles to younger ones. “I won’t bore you with all the stories of older women not getting jobs in film because it’s so boring. But it’s true – it’s a disaster,” she said on BBC One’s Andrew Marr Show on Sunday.
When Raworth asked the 54-year-old actor why she thought it was boring, Scott Thomas replied: “Because it’s never going to change. Until the average life-span is 150 years or something, I don’t think women in their 50s are going to be considered at all viable. I think that’s what it is,” she said. “Sorry.”

Scott Thomas has spoken about watching herself age on screen in the past. In 2024, she said: “When you’re my age, you’re invariably in a supporting role, so there’s often a young woman in her twenties or early thirties who is the lead, and you’re constantly put next to them. You’re watching yourself get old, on a screen that hides nothing.”
She added that she would consider a face-lift, and said that women of her age became “invisible” to society.

Gwen Stefani on Gavin Rossdale: ‘I never really saw myself landing a guy that hot’

Gwen Stefani on Gavin Rossdale: ‘I never really saw myself landing a guy that hot’

On her marriage to Gavin Rossdale:
“We go through so much together—it’s a miracle that we could stay together this long. [Gavin’s] on a short tour right now, and he wrote me the sweetest note this morning. It’s good to have those days when we both do our own things. I think that’s what keeps relationships going, when both people can be themselves and have their own individuality. That’s especially important for women—it’s hard to find time for yourself.”

On marrying a “hot guy:”

“I never really saw myself landing a guy that hot. I don’t know if I was a nerd in high school, but I definitely wasn’t the super-cute cheerleader so I never saw myself getting some**** like that. But I do think he’s quite handsome. It’s not the most important thing about him, but it is nice…and he makes really cute babies!”

On her gratitude for her long and successful music career:

“My parents taught us, ‘[music] is your hobby. People don’t make it. It just doesn’t happen.’ It still shocks me that people care about me. I trip out about it all the time. It’s mind-blowing! For me, I’ve never gotten to a point where I felt, ‘Okay, I’ve made it, I’m number one!’ It’s an amazing feeling to hit number one, but it’s not that different a feeling from not being number one. It’s really about the journey—that’s where the joy comes. It’s not about the end result, because there isn’t really ever an end.”

On One Direction: “I just think it’s funny that it’s all five dudes who want to be taken pretty seriously as musicians, but I don’t think any of them play instruments. I know there’s a guy named Harry. Probably someone named Liam.”

On his son’s preschool experience:
“I don’t know what the f*** they do. Basically you just go there to get a cold.”

On coyotes::
“They’re smart as f***, dude. To call a coyote in that doesn’t hang up at, like, 700 yards–to get him to come in is so hard. You’ve gotta lure him in. You’ve gotta post up in the morning and evening and do a predator call that sounds like a dying rabbit. And they come running out, and they’re like, “Where the f*** is it?” It’s been a while since I shot one, but I just like to shoot anything with the .22-250 [Remington].”

On hunting:
“Anytime you go to the farmers’ market or you go hunt something, you earn it a little bit. Getting all the food is a process. It makes you feel good. It’s like getting in shape by working out rather than by getting lipo. You know what I mean?”

On shooting elephants:
“I’m definitely pro-hunter, but elephant is something I would never shoot. I would like to hunt in Africa. I’d like to hunt all the game animals in Africa. The sh*t that’s being hunted today–like a gazelle, springbok, kudu, all that stuff. All those animals are really beautiful; you could feed some people, get a cool trophy out of the deal.”

On hotels:
“I hate hotels. I had to stay in a hotel in New Orleans the whole time. What a waste of f***ing money that was. Holy sh*t. I was so tired, I didn’t even want to look at bills. I just signed the thing, and then at the end, I was like, ‘Are you f***ing kidding me? That’s how much this place cost? Oh, great.’”

On home childbirth:
“I just think about all the women who had to give birth back in the day in their homes–if you were to get in a time machine and be like, ‘By the way, in the future, there’s facilities that, if something goes wrong, there are trained professionals to take care of you. The mortality rate goes way down. You could totally survive this, and your baby, and people choose not to. Is that crazy?’ They would be like, ‘What?!’”

On hanging out with his co-stars:
“We don’t hang out all that much outside of work. I don’t really do much of anything, other than just work and come home. No a**holes. It’s great. You hear these horror stories about people who you have to work with. Maybe that means I’m an **shole.”

Rocker Scott Weiland never arrested; authorities tricked by impostor

Rocker Scott Weiland never arrested; authorities tricked by impostor

Former Stone Temple Pilots frontman Scott Weiland is not happy with a Thursday TMZ report claiming he is cooling his heels in jail on a $95,000 bond. He even said so in a video he posted on Facebook shortly after the story was published.

Rather than being in jail, Weiland said, "I’ve actually been touring, writing and recording my new album."

The gossip outlet claimed that Weiland had been in jail since July after he was arrested for shoplifting razors, and said that while police were searching him at that time, they found meth.

Part of the story is somewhat true, police said. A man claiming to be Weiland was arrested July 26 on suspicion of shoplifting and officers did allegedly find a "controlled substance" on his person, they said. His bail was set at $20,000.

But wait, it gets stranger: According to the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department Inmate Information Center ***site, there was a current inmate with the same name and birth date as Weiland.

Turns out the inmate, identified as Jason Michael Hurley, 44, was able to trick police and jail staff into thinking he was the famous rocker, police said late Thursday night.

The hoax went on for about four weeks before it was discovered Thursday, thanks to the real Weiland’s video.

The now properly identified inmate will most likely face charges of giving ***** information to officers, police said.

Just how Hurley was able to trick police and jail staff is unclear, but he did have an upcoming court appearance Tuesday, according to records.

The real Weiland is threatening TMZ with legal action for what he called "a lie."

Attempts to reach TMZ for comment were unsuccessful.

Angelina Jolie: I thought I’d never find love

Angelina Jolie: I thought I’d never find love

خليجية

Remember the dark and brooding Angelina Jolie, the one who wore one husband’s blood around her neck and shared an uncomfortably intense kiss with her brother?
That wasn’t about rebellion, Jolie tells Elle magazine in its June issue. That was a 20-something trying to find herself.

"It wasn’t a need to be destructive or rebellious — it’s that need to find a full voice, to push open the walls around you," the 38-year-old actress says. "You want to be free. And as you start to feel that you are being corralled into a certain life, you kind of push against it. It may come out very strange, it may be interpreted wrong, but you’re trying to find out who you are."
Interestingly, who she thought she’d become and who she ended up being are two different things. Now a mom of six and engaged to Brad Pitt, Jolie says she once believed she wouldn’t have kids or find love.

"I never thought I’d have children, I never thought I’d be in love, I never thought I’d meet the right person," Jolie says. "Having come from a broken home — you kind of accept that certain things feel like a fairy tale, and you just don’t look for them."
Jolie and Pitt’s relationship dates back to 2024, the same year their action thriller/romance movie "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" arrived in theaters. At the time, Pitt petitioned to formally adopt Jolie’s two kids, Maddox and Zahara, and since then the couple have welcomed four more children: Shiloh, Pax and twins Vivienne and Knox.
"You get together and you’re two individuals and you feel inspired by each other," Jolie says of her relationship with Pitt. "(Y)ou challenge each other, you complement each other, drive each other beautifully crazy. After all these years, we have history — and when you have history with some****, you’re friends in such a very real, deep way that there’s such a comfort, and an ease, and a deep love that comes from having been through quite a lot together."

Lately Pitt and Jolie — who announced their engagement in April 2024 — are dealing with how to introduce their kids to show business. Vivienne co-stars with Jolie in the May 30 release "Maleficent," with Zahara and Pax also making a brief appearance.
The movie is a live-action re-telling of the "Sleeping Beauty" story from the wicked sorceress Maleficent’s point of view, and Jolie explained that Vivienne was cast as the young Aurora because she was the only child who could withstand Jolie’s evil character.

"My little Vivienne — we call her my shadow, because there’s nothing I can do to shake her," Jolie tells Elle. "I can be tired, I can be grumpy, I can be in a terrible mood, and she doesn’t care. It’s ‘Mommy, Mommy,’ and she’ll cling to me. We knew that she would still do that thing, she’d still smile at me and insist that I pick her up. So we couldn’t really cast any**** else."
(And apparently Jolie did try; when she asked her daughter Shiloh "about being Aurora, and she laughed in my face," Jolie recalls. "She said she’d be a horned creature.")

While Jolie and Pitt don’t discourage their kids from being involved in their careers, neither of them is eager to see the brood follow in their footsteps.

"Brad and I made the decision that we wouldn’t keep them from sets and the fun of making movies, but we wouldn’t [glorify it either] — we wouldn’t make it a good thing or a bad thing," Jolie says. "But I would really prefer they do something else … (A)fter two days of it, Brad and I were so stressed we never wanted to do it again."

Andrea Yates’s Ex: I’ve Never Blamed Her for Drowning Our Five Children

Andrea Yates’s Ex: I’ve Never Blamed Her for Drowning Our Five Children

Andrea Yates’s Ex: I’ve Never Blamed Her for Drowning Our Five Children

On Saturday’s episode of Oprah: Where Are They Now?, Oprah described Rusty Yates as “a living, breathing example of being able to move forward when the most horrific thing occurs.” He is also one of the most forgiving people on the planet—Yates’s ex-wife Andrea drowned their five children one-by-one in 2001. She was diagnosed with postpartum depression and psychosis, and after being convicted of capital murder, she was found not guilty by reason of insanity on appeal. She is currently at a state mental hospital in Kerville, Texas.

Rusty says Andrea is “wonderful” and that he cares about her still. (They divorced in 2024.)

“It was a horrific act but I’ve Never Blamed her for it,” Rusty told Oprah. “Because I think of it as akin to…suppose I’m driving down the street in our Suburban with our Five Children and I have a heart attack and slide over into oncoming traffic and get in this horrible car accident and I’m the only survivor. Should I be prosecuted for that? Should I be Blamed for that?”

Rusty says that he hasn’t concerned himself too much with exactly what Andrea was thinking while performing the drownings. “For me, it’s sufficient to know she was in a delusional state,” he told Oprah. Andrea reportedly told psychiatrists that she thought Satan was inside of her and that by killing her children, she was also saving them.

Rusty believes that their deep faith somewhat complicated the situation. “We were a pretty religious family, and I think that it’s a double-edged sword,” he said. “It’s like, you kind of want that in a way, you want to develop spiritually, you want to grow, but on the flip side…it can be a heavy burden for some people…I think about her delusions, I think well she was concerned about her own spiritual development, her own standing before God. I think she was more concerned about those things than she would have been otherwise because of that influence.”

Rusty says that he sees Andrea once a year and talks to her by phone once a month.

This asshole has got to be kidding. How kind of him to forgive her but not acknowledge how his actions set this in motion.

Jennifer Love Hewitt Once Sent Matt Damon a Bed — and He Never Said Thank You!

Jennifer Love Hewitt Once Sent Matt Damon a Bed — and He Never Said Thank You!

A little bit nuts! Jennifer Love Hewitt gave an insight into her kooky personality on Monday, Sept. 29, when she told Jimmy Kimmel a bizarre story about how she Once Sent Matt Damon a bed.

The 35-year-old actress was just 19 (and starring in her hit show Party of Five) when she took the questionable step of putting a bed in the mail to the Good Will Hunting hunk. But as she explained during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, her oddball actions were actually just an outpouring of empathy towards a busy fellow actor.

"Well, I’m not a normal person," Hewitt prefaced her story, before explaining, "I was reading an article and he Said this really sad thing about how all his dreams were coming true but he didn’t feel that he had a bed of his own, he was always traveling."

"I remember being really busy also and thinking that’s so sad, to have all your dreams come true but not have a solid foundation. So for some reason, I though an aerobed would help that for him," she admitted, laughing.

"In my head, I thought, ‘He can travel with it, then it’s always his safe place.’ I didn’t go over it with anyone, I should’ve been like, ‘Hey, should I send this to Matt Damon?’ and they would’ve been like, ‘No you’re crazy, don’t do it!’ But I didn’t, so I got the information he was in Paris, filming something, so I Sent it to Paris."

Sadly for Hewitt, the gift didn’t appear to go down well with Damon. "I Never got a ‘thank you,’" she admitted. "It made me sad. I understand maybe his security Never gave it to him, that’s a possibility."

J. Love is enoying a return to the spotlight following a well-deserved break from work to concentrate on motherhood. The actress welcomed daughter Autumn last November, and secretly married her long-time partner Brian Hallisay shortly before the birth.

Diane Keaton wishes she had married – but was never asked

Diane Keaton wishes she had married – but was never asked

She is on the Today Show right now discussing her book. She point blank said she wishes she had married but none of the men she dated ever asked. She was very interesting and honest about her sense of beauty, relationships, Woody Allen, and fame.

Here is another interview: Diane Keaton on Woody Allen’s feet, Al Pacino’s nose

Actress Diane Keaton, 68, explores aging, beauty and the men in her life in her new book, Let’s Just Say It Wasn’t Pretty (Random House). She discussed it, along with Al Pacino’s nose, Woody Allen’s feet and life as a single mom, with USA TODAY’s Bob Minzesheimer.

Q: Can you explain the book’s title?

A: It’s a phrase I used in so many aspects of my life. It wasn’t pretty. It started when I was about 10 and looked in the mirror and it wasn’t pretty (laughs). It was the first time I recognized I wasn’t going to be so pretty. The main flaw I saw was my nose. I wouldn’t say it was a W.C. Fields nose. It wasn’t that bulbous, but it was bulbous. And my **** seemed larger than I thought. That became a way of seeing who I was and what I wanted and feeling disappointed. I think this is a dilemma many women go through. I don’t think many men have that reaction to their faces or bodies. But as I got older, I was able to define the differences between pretty and beauty.

Q: Which is what?

A: Pretty is a self-serving situation in which it’s all about you. People who were pretty were superficial, but they were not beautiful. Beauty requires more depth. Like in the book, I mention Natalie Wood who had this aspect of sadness, something more going

Q: Whose idea was the book cover, where you’re hiding behind a hat.

A: Mine. I thought I’d have hard time selling that photograph. But it says, "How much can you hide?" It grabs your eyes.

Q: But you’re not hiding on the back cover.

A: And I like that. It looks like me and I look happy.

Q: In the book, you ask but don’t exactly answer a question: "Is it authentic for me to seek out attention by wearing ‘eccentric’ clothes with a lifetime of hats?"

A: Well, what’s authentic? I think everyone has a choice. Whatever they want to do, that’s authentic.

Q: And how many hats do you have?

A: The hat I’m wearing I’ve had for about 20 years, so it’s not like they change around a lot. But I have been interested in a variety of hats – bowler hats and ****ball caps. Just **** it, I own it. Maybe 50.

Q: And shoes, which you advise saving?

A: I do believe in saving shoes. But that does not make me a hoarder. I am not a hoarder. But why not save them? Styles come back. Platforms did. I probably have more shoes than hats. At least 55 pairs of shoes.

Q: You also write about your "Spock-like" ears. Really?

A: They’re big, but not Bing Crosby big. And I haven’t pinned them back – yet.

Q: Moving on to hair, you quote a former boyfriend, Warren Beatty, that hair is "60percent of good looks." You agree?

A: You know he made the movie Shampoo? It depends on how obsessed you are with hair. In my case, I do think about it in the 60 percentile. I do think about my thinning hair.

Q: You write about living near an ocean-front cliff in Los Angeles despite your father’s advice, "Don’t buy near a landside area. Don’t live in the hills. Don’t marry a bum."

A: I don’t live on the bluff. I am a block away from the buff. But I didn’t always take my father’s advice…

Q: You write about your friendships and romances with several co-stars, including Woody Allen, who didn’t like to go barefoot, even while strolling on a beach, which you found hilarious. How so?

A: I grew in Southern California and we camped out and had our feet in the sand. We were people of the earth, but I never knew anyone quite like Woody. He was not accustomed to putting his feet in the sand. I loved laughing at him, but he did more than his fair share of laughing at me. Which made life fun with Woody. I write in the book about how he said to me, "You’re beautiful even if you were wearing a beekeeper’s hat." (laughs) I mean really? Come on, that’s genius.

Q: What do you say to people who don’t know whether to believe Woody or his adopted daughter, Dylan Farrow, who’s accused him of child abuse?

A: I’m his friend, so I believe Woody.

Q: You also write about Al Pacino…

A: Let’s talk about his nose. The best nose I’ve ever seen. Bar none. I wouldn’t mind taking a look at that nose again.

Q: What did you mean when you write about "the lure of Al" and "losing a man I’d never had."

A: (Laughs.) How do you lose something you never had? There’s probably no end to the ways you could try to properly seduce him into becoming something you want in your mind — that he would commit to me. It was probably never going to happen. Many people told me at the time, but I wouldn’t hear it. That shows my pig-headedness, just like my Grammy Hall.

Q: You write you will never marry. You sure?

A: Getting married at age 68? I wouldn’t bet on it. For anyone – for the first time? It takes a lot to marry someone and by the time you’re 68, you pretty much know what your limitations are. I could see being a companion with someone. Maybe a dog.

Q: Don’t you have a dog?

A: Maybe a few more.

Q: You became a single mother at 50. (Keaton has two adopted kids: daughter Dexter, is 18; son Duke in 13.) How’s that going at 68?

A : (Laughs). I think the growth of the brain is a slow process. I think about choices I made and how immature I was. It just gets more complex as time goes on. But you do change and the more you accept change and embrace change, the better. I do see all these changes in them. It’s been fun, but it would be nice if they had had a father.

Q: Do they ask you about that?

A: No. They’re not curious enough or they’re curious but afraid to confront the issues of being adopted. I don’t think that’s a walk in the park. I do think a male presence would be a good addition. But to be a single woman, and not being privileged like I am, and you have to work and you’re just getting by? Oh, God, I think, how do they do it?

Q: Your next movie, And So It Goes (opening July 11), is your first with Michael Douglas. How was that?

A: He’s such a pro, but a bit of a mystery. I don’t know him well, but he doesn’t mind being teased. Which is good for me because when I’m opposite a man in a romantic movie, I like to loosen it up a bit.

Q: No plans to retire?

A: Never. Why? By retire, I don’t know what that means. Some people say they’re retired and it means they have time to do things they want to do. I have always had the privilege to engage in my hobbies as if they were work. And they are. So hobbies are work, but work that you want to do; they are play. Retirement? That sounds like you’re going to passively walk into the sunset and disappear. The sooner the better because what are you doing? Nothing! Although for some people, maybe just sitting and relaxing is another exploration. So what do I know?
