An astonishing video has shown the moment that a family’s cat came to the rescue of their four-year-old son after he was viciously attacked by a neighbor’s dog.
Jeremy Triantafilo was sitting on his bicycle outside his family’s home in Bakersfield, California on Tuesday when the dog escaped its home through an open gate and crept up on him from behind.
Surveillance footage, which Jeremy’s father uploaded to YouTube, shows the dog grabbing the boy’s leg and pulling him to the ground before violently shaking him with his teeth clamped tight.

Then suddenly, an unlikely Hero bounds towards him – the family’s cat, Tara.
The video shows the fearless feline jumping on the dog with enough force to push him away from the boy. Tara then chases the dog away from the driveway with its leg between its tail.

Satisfied that the animal has left the area, she then returns to her family to check on Jeremy, who is being comforted by his mother, Erica, who had been nearby.

The neighbor, who had been pulling out of their gated driveway when the dog escaped, called 911 for the boy and his mother, KERO reported.

The boy, who has mild autism, needed stitches to the deep wounds on his legs but is otherwise fine, his mother told the ABC affiliate.

‘Tara is my hero,’ Jeremy said, adding that she saved him from ‘a mean dog – I got an owie!’

The dog was taken by Bakersfield Animal Control. TMZ reported that it continued to be aggressive after it was captured and has been euthanized.

The encounter was caught on surveillance cameras outside the home and uploaded to YouTube by the boy’s father, Roger Triantafilo, on Wednesday.

‘My cat defends my son during a vicious dog attack and runs the dog off before he can do additional damage,’ Triantafilo wrote beneath the video. ‘Thankfully, my son is fine!’
He added to KERO: ‘I’ve never seen a cat do that. Especially ours. It just shows how much she really has a family-oriented mind set.’

The boy’s mother said on Facebook: ‘We aren’t upset with our neighbors, we’re just thankful our son wasn’t injured more… Our cat is my hero!’

Eight Men Jailed in Malala Yousafzai Attack 'Secretly Acquitted'

In April, ten men were sentenced to life in prison by a Pakistani court for the assassination attempt on Malala Yosafzai, the schoolgirl and education activist shot in 2024. “Life,” we now, apparently means “a couple months.” The BBC now reports that Eight of the men were secretly acquitted. Immediately after the trial, which was held behind closed doors, a prosecutor had told the Associated Press each man got 25 years.

The BBC got hold of the court judgment in the case for the first time, and found that Eight of the men were acquitted on all charges due to lack of evidence. The whole thing is curious, given that people involved in prosecuting the case claimed clearly and unambiguously that they’d been convicted. From one of the many reports at the time:

“Ten attackers who were involved in the Attack on Malala Yousafzai have been sentenced to life imprisonment,” a court official told AFP news agency. Life prison sentences in Pakistan are 25 years.

News of the sentencing was confirmed by a lawyer present at the hearing in the north-western town of Mingora, as well as a security official.

The obvious follow-up question is: where are those Eight men? The answer, according to the BBC, is that no**** knows. A court official who reportedly confirmed the original judgment to the AP back in April is now denying ever speaking to that reporter (but yet didn’t dispute the literally thousands of reports saying the men had been convicted). This entire thing reeks.

Manchester dogs Home is on fire with all the dogs yelping 🙁
7:46 PM – 11 Sep 2024 Manchester, United Kingdom

More than 40 dogs have been killed in a huge blaze at a Manchester dogs’ home. A 14-year-old male has been arrested on suspicion of arson, according to Great Manchester Police. Firefighters were called to the scene around 7pm after a fire was spotted in the kennel section. Around 150 dogs were rescued, however 43 reportedly died in the blaze.
Local residents said they could hear "dogs yelping" as the fire spread. Hundreds of residents flocked to the site in Moss Brook Road with dog blankets, cages and food, with some reportedly helping to save some of the animals. More than 30 firefighters brought the blaze under control with damage caused to about a third of the kennels.

A joint investigation by Greater Manchester Police and Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service is under way as dampening down at the Home continues. Superintendent Marcus Noden said: "We are working closely with Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service to establish how this tragedy has occurred.
"We are in the very early stages of the investigation and have a young boy in custody, however we would ask if anyone was in the area and remembers seeing anything suspicious around the Dogs’ Home that they call police and tell us what they know. As a dog owner myself I understand that many people will feel angry and upset about what has happened but I would ask that they let the police carry out their investigations and not take matters into their own hands.
"We have received an overwhelming response from the public and would ask if anyone wants to help they can make donations of food or bedding to North Manchester divisional headquarters on Northampton Road in Newton Heath."

GMFRS station commander Paul Duggan said that some parts of the roof of the single-storey kennel section had collapsed and firefighters were working to ensure it was made safe before assessing the full damage. Anna Stansfield, manager of Cheshire Dogs Home, described the blaze as "soul destroying" and added all the rescued dogs would be transferred to its site in Cheshire.

She said she could not comment on the circumstances of the blaze but confirmed that four members of staff were working there at the time. Ms Stansfield said: "I cannot describe what we have seen tonight. It’s soul destroying. We are so grateful to the people of Manchester and Greater Manchester who have come to support us but we need to get the roads clear so we can get the dogs out."
Manchester & Cheshire Dogs’ Home opened in 1893 and has rehomed more than one million dogs. The registered charity is said to care for more than 7,000 stray and unwanted dogs each year and manages to rehome 95% of them. A surge in donations on its its JustGiving website took place in the wake of the blaze.
Among those donating were Dominic Hunt who wrote "Heartbreaking. I wish I could give more" and Susan and Leanne Gresty, who said: "There are no words to describe the sadness we are feeling for the poor little animals who have lost their lives and those that are suffering tonight."

Singer Jodie Prenger, a patron for Manchester & Cheshire Dogs’ Home, tweeted: " All my thoughts are with you guys. It’s broke my heart to hear such sad news."
Battersea Dogs & Cats Home said it was "incredibly saddened" to learn of the fire. A spokeswoman said: "We extend our deepest sympathies to all the staff and volunteers at the centre.
"We understand this tragic incident may have led to the loss of life of several rescue dogs. Battersea is very willing to help in any way we can over the coming days and weeks and we have attempted contact with the Manchester rescue centre to see how we can support them at this difficult time."

A teenager suffering from a phobia of toilets has died from a heart attack.

Emily Titterington, 16, died after going eight weeks without a bowel movement which left her with a compressed her chest cavity and displaced organs.

An inquest in Turo, Cornwall, herd that Emily’s life could have been saved with appropriate medical treatment, but she has refused medical examinations.

Home Office pathologist Dr Amanda Jeffery said her symptoms were in keeping with a condition known as “stool withholding”, which is more frequent in children.

A post-mortem examination revealed that the 16-year-old had a “massive extension of the large bowel,” which Jeffery described as “like nothing I have ever seen before – it was dramatic”.

Emily, who also had mild autism, had suffered with bowel problems for most of her life but doctors had been unable to determine the cause.

Her GP Dr Alistair James said that Emily’s mother, Geraldine, 59, has battled with her daughter to be medically examined in the period leading up to her death, but her protests had been in vain.

Dr James told the coroner that he had prescribed laxatives but had not examined Emily’s abdomen.
He said: “Had I done so, we would be having a different conversation. Her death could have been avoided with the right treatment at the right point.”

Emily collapsed while at home in St Austell, Cornwall on 8 February 2024. Paramedics attempted to revive her but she was later pronounced dead in hospital.

Lee Taylor, a paramedic who attended the family’s home twice in the night of her death, described Emily as “looking pale” on his first visit.

She complained of pain between her shoulders blades, he told the inquest, but he did not notice any abdominal swelling and she refused to go to hospital and was extremely reluctant to be examined.

Taylor said that when he and student paramedic, Lisa Marie Edwards, arrived at the family home for the second time that night after 4am, “her father James was outside shouting at us to help, saying something had gone badly wrong.“

When they found Emily lying in the doorway of the bathroom Taylor said: “I could see that her abdomen was grossly extended. Her lower ribs had been pushed out further than her pubic bone – I was shocked.”

The inquest is ongoing.
