Conor Oberst Files Libel Lawsuit Over Rape Allegations

Bright Eyes frontman Conor Oberst filed a Libel Lawsuit against a woman who claimed the singer raped her 10 years ago. The suit claims that "the only connection between Oberst and [Joanie] Faircloth was one of artist and fan" and that Faircloth, who was 16 at the time of the alleged incident, "never had any physical contact" with Oberst and "posted laudatory comments" about the singer online.

"The Lawsuit filed today outlines Faircloth’s history of inventing stories and personalities online in order to gain attention," says the suit. "Through his attorneys, Oberst requested that Faircloth recant her ***** accusations, but she ignored the requests. Oberst has thus been forced to proceed with this Libel suit in order to set the record straight and to clear his ****."

Faircloth initially made the accusations last December in the comments section of an XOJane article entitled "I Dated a Famous Rock Star & All I Got Was Punched in the Face." The now-deleted comment alleged that Oberst’s brother was Fairchild’s English teacher, who arranged for Fairchild to meet Oberst after a show.

"Conor definitely took advantage of my teenage crush on him," wrote Fairchild. "At first, I was flattered when he was playing with my hair and had his hand on my leg. It was like my dream come true at that point. But then he clearly wanted to go further and I made it very clear and told him I was a virgin and wasn’t prepared to change that right then but he didn’t stop."

At the time, Oberst’s publicist issued a statement claiming the Allegations were "absolutely, un*****ocally *****" and "particularly serious and sickening."

According to TMZ, Oberst is suing for more than $1 million. In his statement, Oberst says that all proceeds from the Lawsuit will go to charities for victims of domestic violence.

Conor Oberst’s Statement Regarding Rape Allegations

Today Conor Oberst filed a Libel Lawsuit in a New York federal court against Joanie Faircloth, a resident of North Carolina, who *****ly accused him of Rape in the comments section of the xoJane ***site in December of 2024 and again, some days later, on her Tumblr page. The suit counters Faircloth’s ****less Allegations and states that Oberst never had any physical contact with her, either at the concert in Durham, NC at which she claims the attack took place, or at any other time. The only connection between Oberst and Faircloth was one of artist and fan – a fan who has posted laudatory comments about Oberst elsewhere online, including describing attending his band’s concert as the "Best memory ever!"

The Lawsuit filed today outlines Faircloth’s history of inventing stories and personalities online in order to gain attention. Although her ***** statements about Oberst have since been deleted from the ********s where they were initially posted online, Oberst’s suit alleges that her malicious lies spread across the Internet and are archived by multiple blogs. Through his attorneys, Oberst requested that Faircloth recant her ***** accusations, but she ignored the requests. Oberst has thus been forced to proceed with this Libel suit in order to set the record straight and to clear his ****.

Oberst is seeking to promote the truth and repair the distress this has brought upon him and his family. Oberst intends to donate the proceeds of this suit to charities benefitting the victims of violence against women.

Claims of Conor Oberst raping a woman ten years ago began making waves throughout the internet Over the past few days. The timeline started from an article posted on XO Jane in which a comment was made regarding Oberst that then circulated to Tumblr. The poster of the original comment has now created her own blog to share the events that she is alleging occurred between her and Oberst ten years ago. That full blog post detailing the events can be read below after the jump.

Look, I didn’t intend for any of this to happen. I was a somewhat regular commenter on xojane and felt safe there. Call it dumb, naive, etc but when I hit that post button, I did not think my comment would be anything more than an exchange with one or two other commenters sharing their stories. Was I stupid to think that making an accusation about Conor like this was just going to remain some blip in the comment section of a feminist ***site? Obviously. But I didn’t realize that Conor was still *that* popular, to be honest. I guess I felt too safe in that community. I had no intention for this to be all Over the place, I really did not.

I am not looking for my 15 minutes of fame or to sue or to let anyone else make money off of this situation (though some are already trying), I am not looking for anything. I am not trying to ruin this man (and that isn’t going to happen regardless). All I was looking for when I made the comment with my story was support from the ladies on that forum that I felt safe opening up to. But now this has been spread all Over everywhere and I feel like I need to speak up for the facts, for my character and for my intent (or lack there of).

I wish I could say I was really brave and I was speaking out for the benefit of other victims of Rape who may feel discounted in their experiences and alone. But I am not that brave. I am speaking now because everyone else is speaking for me and a lot of it isn’t accurate. But now that it’s out there, if anyone can relate to it and not feel so alone or needs any support, I’m here for that.

I am going to open this blog up for dialogue. You are welcome to send me questions. However, for the safety of my family and my sanity, I will only answer reasonable, respectful messages. I will not engage with absolutists who have already made their minds up about me and want to use this forum as a way to fuck with me or make this experience any harder. I just won’t. I will not answer messages that I consider to be out of line, too invasive, would jeopardize the safety & privacy of my family, are too triggering for me as a victim or just out right hate. I will not do it.

I do not expect anyone to coddle me or hate him or to believe me. That’s your choice and has no bearing on my life, but I do expect people to treat me with dignity and respect-this was and is very painful for me. It’s really hard to have my experience smeared everywhere and picked apart, Over analyzed, people criticizing me who know nothing of it, etc. But I made the stupid mistake that opened these flood gates so, I will deal with it. But please just try to be respectful-that shouldn’t be so hard. Please refrain from telling me what I could’ve/would’ve/should’ve done. That is highly offensive to any victim of anything and not your place. Please respect my privacy for the safety of my family.

Thank you.

Update: Conor Oberst Responds To Rape Allegations As “Un*****ocally *****”

Conor Oberst’s publicist has issued a statement and called the recent Rape Allegations against the singer “absolutely, un*****ocally *****.” Oberst will be consulting a Libel attorney regarding the claims as well. You can read the statement below after the jump.

Usually we wouldn’t feel the urge to comment on spurious blog chatter but the recent Allegations made about Conor Oberst by an anonymous commenter on the xoJane ***site are flagrant enough to demand our response. This individual’s accusations are absolutely, un*****ocally *****. Unfortunately, the internet allows for groundless statements like this to travel the world before the truth has any time to surface. This is a particularly serious and sickening allegation and there is no truth to it. Conor has nothing but abhorrence for the perpetrators of such crimes of sexual violence. The behavior attributed to him by this individual is in direct opposition to his principles. Conor is consulting with a Libel attorney regarding this matter.

Miss Delaware Amanda Longacre Loses Her Crown Over Age Dispute; Officials Say She’s Too Old at 24

Two weeks after Amanda Longacre was crowned Miss Delaware, pageant Officials took away the title because of a dispute Over her age, claiming that Longacre, who turns 25 in October, is too old to be eligible

Age, it turns out, is not just a number for the Miss America Organization. Two weeks after she was crowned Miss Delaware in her state’s pageant on June 14, Amanda Longacre lost the title because of an age dispute. Rules state that contestants in the Miss America pageant must be 17 to 24 years old; Longacre turns 25 in October, a month after the competition.

In a video about the controversy, posted by Delaware Online, Longacre claims she checked with pageant supervisors about the age requirement prior to enrolling; they reportedly told her that she was eligible to compete as long as she was 24 at the time of the actual pageant, which takes place in September.

Earlier this week, however, the Bear, Del., resident was told she could no longer represent the state and would be stripped of her title and $11,000 scholarship. A new Miss Delaware, runner-up Brittany Lewis, also 24, was crowned Thursday, June 26.

"Following the Miss Delaware Pageant, it was determined that Amanda Longacre exceeded the age requirement in order to be eligible to compete, therefore, the Miss Delaware 2024 title is awarded to Brittany Lewis," the organization said in a release, per USA Today. "The Miss Delaware Pageant is proud to congratulate Brittany and wishes Amanda the very best on her future endeavors."

Longacre appeared on NBC’s Today show on Friday, June 27, to talk about the controversy. During the interview, she reiterated that she’d turned Over all the proper ********ation about her age, and that the board had signed off on her application. "I deserve to represent my state," she said, adding that she was speaking with an attorney. Later, when one of the hosts brought up Lewis’ crowning, she broke down crying.

She also cried in the Delaware Online video. "Now I have lost everything — my scholarship money for school, my prizes, and my Crown — all because of a technicality that was not caught by the executive board," she said through tears.

Hey, good news, everyone! Florida Woman is back in the news (it’s been ages; can’t wait to catch up, let’s do lunch). This time, it’s for getting into a vicious Fight with her own Twin Sister Over a vibrator.
According to police, Heidi Creamer of Bradenton got into a Fight with her Twin Sister Over a Vibrator and her boyfriend. Things soon turned physical and Creamer assaulted her sister, punching and scratching her and pulling her hair. (This Fight has to be Over a rabbit, right? That’s the only one I can think that’s probably worth throwing a punch for.) Via the Orlando Sentinel, which I’m guessing covers a Florida Vibrator Fight once or twice a week:

Creamer stopped After a few minutes and began grabbing her personal belongings, stacking them outside the front door and stating that she wanted to leave, according to the affidavit. When Creamer exited the front door to place some items outside, her Twin slammed the door and locked Creamer outside.

When police arrived, they handcuffed Creamer and put in her in a patrol car. As an officer read her rights, she screamed that "she was fighting with her Sister Over a Vibrator and her boyfriend," according to a police report. Sounds like the right thing to say when you’re about to be dragged off to jail.
Creamer was charged with domestic battery and released on bond. No one on what became of the vibrator, but I’m sure it’s at the forefront of everyone’s thoughts.

They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery—but Rihanna is not flattered.

In fact, the singer mocked a 16-Year-Old fan who recently recreated one of her red carpet looks. Alexis Carter was inspired the Alexandre Vauthier jumpsuit Rihanna wore to the 2024 Echo Awards and decided to wear a similar ensemble to her Hollywood-themed prom. "I was like, ‘Oh my God, I love this outfit. I wanna go with this outfit. Let me go show my mom!’ And I was like, ‘Mom, mom, mom, I wanna wear this, it’s cool, I love it, oh my god,’" the student told her local Fox affiliate Wednesday.

A family friend created the ensemble, which featured a plunging neckline and "wing-like" attachments under the arms. "Every**** was saying, ‘Oh my god, I love it. It looks nice. Your **** looks good. It’s different,’" Carter recalled. The next day, however, photos of her Outfit began to circulate on social media. On Twitter, #PromBat trended, complete with altered photographs that mocked her jumpsuit.

Rihanna also ganged up on the teen by posting a photo of picture wearing the jumpsuit (with caption "IG") alongside a photo of Carter in her recreation (with caption "Real Life") and a sad face. In another tweet, the "Jump" singer posted a photo of the teen alongside the bat-like logo of the Wu-Tang Clan.

"I was very offended," Carter said of Rihanna’s tweets. "Why throw shade on it when you had on the exact same thing? The poses was different but the Outfit wasn’t." She added, "She don’t love her fans like she says she does." Rihanna, meanwhile, has yet to comment on the controversy via social media.

Michael Morones, 11, attempts suicide after being bullied over My Little Pony

February 5, 2024 (RALEIGH, N.C.) — An 11-year-old boy is in the hospital after trying to commit suicide — the victim of bullying at school.

Michael Morones remains in WakeMed hospital with a tube down his throat and potentially life-long brain damage. Michael tried to kill himself, apparently because he could no longer take the torrent of bullying he was facing at school.

"He’s the kid that never walks. He dances everywhere," said Michael’s mother, Tiffany Morones-Suttle. "He’s so full of energy. He’s always on the move."

Michael’s parents say he was that way even in the face of daunting bullying at school. Michael likes the cartoon "My Little Pony." It turns out, the cartoon has a growing, and perhaps unlikely fan club — men and boys known as "Bronies." Because of that, Michael was teased so much that ten days ago he decided to do something about it.

"He hung himself off the side of the bunk bed, off the railing," said Morones-Suttle.

His parents got him to the hospital, but the damage had already been done. Oxygen to his brain had been cut off.

"We won’t know for months how much is going to heal," said Morones-Suttle. "It could even be years before we find out what potential for healing he has."

You might think Michael’s parents would be furious with the kids who were bullying their son, but that wouldn’t be in keeping with the show at the center of what they were teasing him about.

"It teaches the most basic moral values to a lot of complex thoughts," said Michael’s stepfather, Shannon Suttle.

Fans of the show, like Michael, try to live the motto that friendship is magic.

"I’ve heard a lot of people say you need to go after bullies and hold them responsible," said Morones-Suttle. "But you know, I don’t think that’s what Mike would want. I would rather teach people how to do right than turn around than punish, because punishment doesn’t always work."

Michael has gotten support from as far away as Ireland, and a lot of money, which is used for Michael’s care, but also to start a nonprofit to help with bullying. As Michael’s father tells it, it’s more than their goal. It’s quickly become their mission.

Incredibly, the bullying hasn’t stopped. Michael’s parents say just Sunday night on a generally supportive ***site, a few people left hurtful comments. They say that just strengthens their resolve to fight bullying, and makes that mission that much more clear.

Bullying prevention expert Nancy Mullin said Michael’s age is right in the prime age for suicides.

"Eleven to 15-year-old boys are very much at risk for thinking about suicide when they’re perceived as being gay," said Mullin.

She credits Michael’s parents with supporting his interest rather than reinforcing shameful feelings.

"The missing piece here is what the school is doing about this," said Mullin.

Mullin says while North Carolina is one of 49 states with bullying prevention laws, not enough is being done to implement programs.

Michael was scheduled to have a tracheotomy Tuesday.

George Zimmerman’s parents sue Roseanne Barr over tweets

George Zimmerman’s parents sue Roseanne Barr over tweets

George Zimmerman’s parents have sued Roseanne Barr for tweeting their address two years ago, which they claim forced them to go into hiding before he was charged with killing Trayvon Martin.

The lawsuit, filed Monday, said the comedian, activist and 2024 presidential candidate published their identities, address and phone number March 29, 2024.

"At first I thought it was good to let ppl know that no one can hide anymore," Barrwrote.

She subsequently deleted that tweet.

Barr later tweeted, "If Zimmerman isn’t arrested I’ll rt his address again — maybe go 2 his house myself."

George Zimmerman had not lived at the house in Lake Mary, Fla., since 2024, though his ****d remained on the title until 2024, the suit states.

Zimmerman’s parents accused Barr of knowing her tweets were "an open and obvious call for vigilante justice" and intending "to cause a lynch mob to descend" on their home, which they bought in 2001

They also allege that she violated Twitter’s terms of service by publishing personal information without their consent.

Barr’s conduct "went beyond all possible bounds of decency and is utterly intolerable in a civilized community," the suit contends.

The Zimmermans claim they were "forced to flee their home as a direct result" of Barr’s tweets and "have not been able to return to live in the house." But the Orlando Sentinel reported that Robert Zimmerman had told the newspaper March 15, 2024, that he and his wife had already moved out because of death threats after their son shot the 17-year-old Trayvon during a struggle Feb. 12.

The Zimmermans are seeking an unspecified amount more than $15,000 for emotional distress and invasion of privacy.

No public response yet from "the original domestic goddess."

George Zimmerman, a former neighborhood-watch volunteer, was acquitted last summer of murdering Trayvon, which he claimed was in self-defense. The boy was unarmed.

Zimmerman says in a new video posted by his divorce attorneys that he wishes people had "a clean slate" about him, "just no prejudice."

"Just think of me as me the person, not who I’ve been portrayed as by the media, by the state, by the government, whomever it may be," he said

He said the video, which was recorded Friday and posted Wednesday, was an effort to "show America who I truly am."

"On a grand scale, I would like to make enough of an impact on the judicial system so that what happens to me never happens to any****," Zimmerman said.

Angry Anti-Choice Pol Wants to ‘Set Myself on Fire’ Over Abortion

Oklahoma State Representative Kevin Calvey, a Republican from Oklahoma City, struggled recently to find the perfect way to express just how much he hates abortion. He managed it, spectacularly: by saying on the House floor that, theoretically, he’d love to set himself on fire and die Over it, if his Christian beliefs didn’t prevent him.

According to NewsOK, Calvey was furious Over a proposed bill that would give Supreme Court employees a six percent raise, saying he doesn’t think the court is doing enough to prevent Oklahoma women from having abortions (Oklahomarecently banned a common second trimester Abortion procedure.)

“If I were not a Christian and didn’t have a prohibition against suicide, I’d walk across the street, douse Myself in gasoline and SET Myself ON FIRE!” he remarked, at a reasonable, primal scream-level volume.

Calvey added that he’d self-immolate “to protest the evil that is going on Over there, killing, giving the death penalty, to the will of the people and the will of this **** and protecting the least among us.”

Calvey is the former Vice President of Oklahomans for Life and previously backed “personhood” measures that would say life in Oklahoma begins at conception. Outside the uterus, he has lots of other fun ideas: in 2024, when Muslim leaders were trying to build a mosque in lower Manhattan, he called them “clearly terrorist sympathizers.” This session, he voted in favor of a bill that would ban same-sex marriage, and sponsored a controversial and much-mocked proposal that would make it illegal for county district attorneys to criminally charge state lawmakers.

He told KFOR earlier this week he doesn’t regret his wording during the abortion debate, arguing that threatening to set himself on fire was a perfectly reasonable thing to do: “No, not one bit, I think that I’m hopeful [sic] to draw attention to this serious issue.”
